ive got a joint account with my GF. but its just there for use for both of us.. we both keep separate accounts too.. and the seperates get most of the money

 

Same. My wife and I both have separate accounts and we have a joint account. We each put x amount of money in joint checking and saving each month to cover expenses and save. It works very well for us. I don't ask when 12 boxes a week get delivered with her name on it and she doesn't ask how much money I have in my rig.

 

I agree. We keep separate accounts because we both work and we both contribute equally financially to our household. Makes things easier when it comes to spending money on our own hobbies and interests.

 

Insurance covered the rest? I'm not sure if we know what percentage insurance is covering yet but I know the paperwork we got says for a normal hospital birth (not C section or any other complications) it's around $4k

It's just an old school way of thinking, comes from when most households had one breadwinner and one stay at home parent. Things are different these days though. What I find hilarious is when people scoff at the idea of separate accounts as though it signifies a lack of commitment. I won't go off on that rant though right now lol.

 

As far as Cali law goes even though we have separate accounts it's all still communal money. So the lack of commitment argument is total bullshit. The ring is the commitment. The rest is just logistics.

 

Let me guess, gas was 15 cents a gallon and you could get a meal for $3 too huh
