The lil one I picked up is 200w. I don't need it to be Hawaii weather in there. Just a bit more comfortable to change the kid's diaper before bed. And we have good -20f down bags so won't need it to be running all night. We are mostly out climbing or surfing. Just looking to see if I could make it a bit more comfortable.

That’s interesting. I’ve never seen a heater that tiny but in a very enclosed space it might work well. Biggest thing (obviously) with an electric heating element you don’t need to worry about venting so in theory you need much less power.

    1 Watt of power = 3.412 BTU/hr so...
200W(3.412)=682 BTU/hr which isn’t much but in a tiny space might be really nice.

My buddy heater on low is 4000Btu’s I ran my in my truck bed with one open panel all night and the vents partially open and was super comfortable but sealed up tight in the tent portion with that little Electric you might but super comfy. I’d certainly be interested in how it works.

I started doing some AMP and Watt conversions but realized I’m kind of tired. Anyway 200W is pretty low draw for a heater and might be worth a look... good luck!!!!

So let me ask does anyone have any idea to add a second fuse box to add light, inverter and other stuff? Thanks Chuck

That’s how I do it. I have a second fuse box in my bed build out. I ran wire directly off the battery with an in line fuse right at the battery. The wire then runs to my bed where I put in a blue sea fuse box. All my accessories in the back run off that.

This thread has been quiet for a while now but i figured I’d revive it. I went ahead and ordered a Dometic PLB-40 last night. I have a friend who has been using one is his 4 Runner since they first came out and he’s been 100% satisfied. Took me close to a year but I think this is the best option currently available anywhere. Time will tell but I’ll keep this thread updated.

after reading this well thought out thread, I weighed the pros and cons and ended up getting the PLB 40 from Dometic. Seems easier and less weight. I can run the fridge in the rear with the PLB hooked up to an aux 12v Blue Sea panel and not have to deal with the $1000+ cost of dual trays and another battery. For $750 plus shipping, I have an 18lb unit that can charge itself and the cooler while running and be able to accept solar if need be. Checks all the boxes. Thanks again!

Couldn't agree more. A traditional dual battery system for more money, more weight, and less flexibility just doesn’t make sense anymore. Plus like you said, built in DC/DC charger and solar charger... it just can’t be beat not at any price.

I ran a 100ah deep cycle in the bed, power management by a Redarc BCDC1225D. Aux battery powers a blue seas fuse block, to a 12V power panel. 100W of Solar charges it during the day, and the truck charges it when it’s on. Solid set up for the value. My Dometic cfx75dz runs 24/7. I didn't want anything super fancy, so I pieced it all out myself and built it over a weekend. It works, I’m happy.

Haha, I had just plugged it in. I was actually running a cfx50 before I built my slide for the 75. It’s running at 34 and 02 now.

Lol, I should have went with the 50 as a long term fridge. The 75dz is huge, and it’s power hungry. It hits voltage cutoff in about 48hrs. I’ve actually considered adding a 3rd battery :anonymous:. Interested to hear how the PLB40 works for you, seems like a solid option!

Nice simple and clean. I'm looking at something very similar. I'm going to go with an Engel solely because it will fit under my Diamondback. Interested in seeing how you set up your power station. I'm going to use Redarc as well.

I must know more about this set up. Part #'s? This is pretty sweet, looks really clean too. Good job!

EDIT: I'm a dummy. I just saw the part # in the previous post with the fridge, sorry. Please disregard.

No problem, I purchased everything on Amazon so if you have a question I can link you to the item directly. The Redarc BCDC chargers are amazing, a little pricy up front but it’s a great standalone unit that has nothing but great reviews.

For the Dometic PLB40 was there an answer on the voltage cut off? Given the positive reviews and since it is made by a fridge maker I’m betting it is not limited like the Goal Zero.
