Doesn't make sense to me that only ATT can unlock it because TMO unlocked it once already when you switched. They do that any time someone switches to TMO.

I'd call them again and explain the situation and talk to a supervisor if you're not getting anywhere. Sometimes you just get unlucky and get a less knowledgeable rep.

There is a plethora of unlock sites that will unlock it for you too.

 

TMobile never unlocked it, they just welcome people to bring their current paid for in full with clean ESN/IMEI to be used on their Network. ATT Unlocked it for Sam since he originally had a plan through them and the phone was sold by/through/on contract with ATT and was carrier locked, only ATT hold the ability to provision the phone and be used with a sim card other than from ATT.





I haven't bought a carrier branded/locked phone for over 10yrs now, and I don't intend to again.

 

I know for a fact that when people switch to T-Mobile that we unlock their phones. We have an internal unlock tool to do exactly that. It's possible that he had it unlocked by ATT and then moved but T-Mobile can for sure unlock phone from compatible carriers.

 

I did not know they could do that.

Besides jailbreaking or a low level exploit I thought only the carrier Apple manufactured and assigned the phone for could unlock it.

I guess that's a good way for TMobile to steal competitors clients by offering the ability to unlock their phone and drop their current carrier.

I don't know anything about Apple so who knows. Maybe there is something here I'm unaware of. I'm actually going to ask around now.

 

Yeah I know that Android phones are usually easily unlocked without carrier involvement, but the last time I used an iPhone was around 2008.

 

I have a brass pickle fork to just knock them out. Makes it super simple. But they can definitely be a pain in the ass

 

My understanding is that when the phone is activated that imei is registered to the activation server database of that carrier. So it can’t get registered to work with a different carriers activation server because it’s in use. ATT unlocked my phone so I could use it on the tmo network, but tier 3 at apple thinks they can get it to work again in a few days. Hooray

I recently re-geared to 4.88 and got me 35s on. Trust me I re discover my truck!

I’m on 35’s now, planning on 37’s or maybe 40’s if i decide to RCLT

I re geared my truck there. Those guys know what they are doing.
