I forgot Oregon has no sales tax. That's quite a chunk when it comes to a major purchase like this.

    It's complicated.
I got a $79 flight on Frontier*** and a friend picked me up at the airport, at 5:30 am. The dealership opened at 9am, and everyone & their brother had come to buy a car! (I guess we all had the same idea; last day of the month, last month of the quarter...)

It took ~4 hours to get everything signed, truck freshly washed, full tank of gas, etc.

A very good truck buying experience! I would again buy from Mountain States Toyota, and will tell everyone about them! William Freytag was the internet salesman who originally contacted me, and did the bulk of earning my business! He also got me that great price! Everyone else was very good too, but William made it happen.

(***NEVER flying them AGAIN! They are awful, awful, awful!)

Not exactly. We have a half percent “privilege tax” on the purchase of new vehicles. We also have revenue taxes on the people selling.

Didn't know about this privilege tax...

But, it was still way less expensive to fly to Denver, buy the truck there, and drive it back.

Yep, I'll take paying 6.25% on a one-time $32k purchase over paying 9% on my taxable income each year which is more than that.

Haha, you beat me to it litljay! and BTW it's at least 9.5% sales tax in the county I'm in (LA), with some cities now as high as 10.25%. It's becoming fu&%ing ridiculous.

I haven't looked through the entire thread but I'm assuming models aren't as heavily discounted at the start of the model year vs. end of year. I've received quotes for $4k off msrp on 2019's but am wondering if I'll get anything close to that with the 2020's later this fall once there are enough of them on dealer lots.

The target seems to be 13-14% below MSRP if you can get it (should be able to get a LTD for less tha $37k). You also need to really shop around - some dealers are just stubborn. I have a local dealer that had a limited on their lot since late 2018, and when I told them a competitor could beat their price by $1500 they refused to move. Needless to say, I purchased the other similarly spec’d Tacoma (which was also a much newer build). Meanwhile that other Tacoma? Still sitting on the lot for the same price.

Yep, shopping around is important. It also helps to find a dealer that sells Tacomas in volume. My local dealer has 100 more Tacomas on the lot than the next biggest dealer around here and the prices and negotiation reflected that.

Getting $15k off MSRP and trading in your 4R for that price.

It's important to mention the agreed price in a thread talking about how much people are paying for these trucks.

Also, the amount you ended up financing is almost exactly what I paid for my truck which means you spent $10k on about $4k worth of mods, and that's being generous.

If you think everyone around you is a fool, you just might be the fool.

I understand what you are saying now but the way you had it wrote up was very miss leading . It's a great truck but wow you could have got a Pro for that price . They did good on your trade GL .
