HI all, I'm planning on heading to Big Bend in mid Sept. for some camping and hiking.

Anyone have any good 4x4 trail recommendations that'll get me "away" and near some good hiking? I'd like to camp in the truck for 1 night, then on the trail (backpacking) for a couple of nights. Cooler area is preferred, so my only idea was at Chisos basin, but that's not much of an adventure.

Wow! That's impressive and well organized!

 

Possibly, but it can get pretty warm in that area. I'd prefer some elevation so that we can get the views and the cooler weather. If all else fails, we'll hike the South Rim and camp up there, but it has the potential to have more foot-traffic than I like.

I'm just not as familiar with other areas of the National Park (or State Park) to find something similar but more remote.

 

Ah, makes sense. I've only been out there once and camped Terlingua so I'm probably not much help.

 

would anyone be interested in having a taco sunday trail/cruise/BBQ at a park or something? not exactly sure who to talk to about setting up stuff.
