Um, there's no argument to be had here. Creationism is not any kind of alternative theory. It's an idea used by apologists to explain why they still believe in the bible. Please offer me an example of science somehow disproving evolution. That is the great myth that is being so adamantly perpetuated by the evolution deniers today. It's simply not true and among the scientific community, there is no disagreement. Scientists simply don't care to argue with religious people anymore. You lost your argument a long, long time ago.

But as I stated earlier, believing in evolution doesn't necessarily mean you can't believe in higher powers, greater beings, the supernatural altogether.

Take for example the Mesopotamians (who, according to the young earth believers, apparently would have never existed ...).

Mesopotamians/Sumerians believed the first humans were short, dark skinned, hairy little things that were created from the blood of Tiamat when she lost her battle against her grandson Marduk. Marduk created the first humans to serve the gods and later on, his father, Enki, gave man a soul. <--------Now remember what I said about researchers at the Vatican now accepting evolution and simply trying to come to a consensus on when they think god injected the soul into early man?

All this does nothing toward saying you or I are better or worse than anyone else, mind you. But if you want to teach your children that a majickal being clapped his hands and *TA DA* made it so, please, teach them that at home. Keep it away from my children. They can choose for themselves when they get old enough to make that decision.

And I would add this, no child is born a believer. We are born atheists, we begin to wonder and if we have religious parents, they tell us its god that did it. When I got older, I "deconverted" and went back to living in reality. If a child isn't seen fit to decide who they can have sex with before 16, 17, or 18, (depending on the state) how can they be seen fit to dedicate their life to the pursuit of an imagined afterlife ...at the age of 5? I was baptized into the southern Baptist church at 7. Looking back on it, I'm disgusted by how absolutely terrified I was of hell and the idea of satan. I would cry thinking about it. I was completely convinced by my mother and the other adults in my life that if I missed a prayer at night before sleep, I could die with unforgiven sins and burn in torturous, flaming, evil hell for all eternity.

That's nothing less than mental abuse.

And please, if you wanna argue or debate, I can be civil, but PM me. Lets leave this here and let the thread survive.

    Have a good weekend. :)

Lewis Black explains the old testament

Comic Relief for this thread. Somebody had to do it ...standard warnings about religious sensitivity and language apply here, blah blah, all that. If ya don't like cursing or having a Jewish person sarcastically explain the realities of what the bible actually says, don't watch it.

    Have a good weekend folks.

you start by saying there is no arguement.......then you go through your rebuttal of the non-argument, non-debate subject at hand, then tell me that if 'I' want to argue or debate, to pm you and leave this thread here to 'survive'. Yet, so far you have 5 fairly anti-religious posts in a meant to be positive "What's your Religion" thread...............okay then, you win.:p:D

Hope your weekend goes good as well.:)

    You're right:rolleyes:

I'll stop posting. Sorry for the hijack of this "positive thread" with my anti-religious hate speak.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Have a laugh, tell someone you love them, and enjoy your day folks.

...and have a beer too. I think some folks here could use one, or two, or twelve.

You say this, yet you say there is no argument. I can say the same thing about evolution; if you want to teach your children that we evolved from apes, go ahead, keep it away from my kids. Why must you insist on Creation being a crazy thought and try to get rid of it in Public schools, but you want evolution to be taught, which has no more facts than Creation?

I believe children see the light of God being through their own eyes. We are not born atheists, because we aren't able to choose between God or atheism... If you had the choice and didn't believe in God, then you are an atheist. Who's to say I'm not living in reality?

And some people don't mind having their doors dinged and you give them a strange or dirty look - what's up with that! :)

The bottom line is that we all put meaning on things. That is what life is about. You value your truck and some people never value there vehicle. They are not wrong they have different meanings.

Many of you people that are against religion place value on not believing.

I used to have a neighbor growing up that was upset you used God's name in anything other than the utmost respect. I learned not to offenend them and expand my vocabulary at the same time. :)

Kinda amazes me how people forget about the values and beliefs America was founded upon. God (and the Christian faith) was one of the reasons we are here.
    Show some respect people lol.

the founding fathers may have been christian, but everyone came here to practice their own religions w/o persecution...christian or not...or even the right to not practice any religion. some people seem to forget that

I'm sorry but no one respects their country more than a veteran of 11 years of faithful service in the United States Marine Corps ...to include 7 months in Iraq and missing the deaths of a best friend and both of my parents due to military assignments in other states away from home.

It amazes me more how wide spread that misconception of yours is. This country was founded on independence from any one sovereign ruler. The puritans that came here before America was ever even thought of as being a possible independent nation were here to escape the authority of the King of England and the Pope, who at the time controlled who could practice what in what way and who could work for the government. In other words if you weren't practicing the approved religion you couldn't be successful and truly free.

Think on that. I'm an atheist. Am I entitled to the same rights as you? I served my country. Do I not deserve the same rights to go to college on the VA's dime? Or should this imagined christian nation of yours not approve of it based on my rejection of middle eastern fables and fairy tales?

Just something to think about my friend. ...and I don't think the ground zero mosque will even be able to find union construction workers willing to build it in NYC. Build it somewhere else assholes, sorry.

As Guliani said, a healer would not go forward with this. A warrior would.

Still tryin' to figure out what assumptions to make about me?

Yes but remember they settled here for more than that reason, to escape the king and it was to spread the christian faith. Also remember what is atop the washington monument.

Alas I always say feel free to believe whatever you want, that's your right.

    Cheers
