gremlin vibrations for several months now
local Toyota mechanics have no clue when I describe it
other indie mechanic wants me to pork out $75 for a diagnostic and road test and that rubbed me the wrong way

i am planning to make the drive to St Louis on the 19th/20th
just need to figure something out i am going :annoyed: :goingcrazy:
i cringe at calling the dealer mechanic to get quotes on the various issues it may or may not be

Have you had any luck trying to pinpoint where it might be coming from? Gremlins vibrations are a pain in the ass to pinpoint

you can go for a test drive? it gets real bad at 90mph under my feet after a roadtest here the other day on some very smooth freshly paved asphalt with no bumps or road noise

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to revive them if they're not locked

i have an MT so every gear 2nd 3rd 4th 5th whenever I hit 2.1k rpm there is some rattle comes from the passenger side behind glovebox (I removed glovebox) then goes away after a couple more rpms, shift gears does same thing again.
I turn the A/C on and it dissapates some, turn the A/C off and the vibrations get much louder

if I have not had the A/C on it drives ok so far

yes i did revive but activity is nill today in the 1st gen section
only 1 1st gen guy I know has the same year truck and has had it as long as I have
his truck has 600k miles on it

i asked him about having this issue and he said no vibrations
but his driving style is different than mine

only thing he has ever had to change is cardan joint i think

it still feels relatively safe to drive, just not at that high of a speed 85+
... just these vibrations probably keep vibrating and making some else get all weird
i have 120k miles as of today and never have had any weird mechanical problems of any sorts off the top of my head ... 2 decades is a long time!

i might take it out tomorrow for another test run on that freeway into Iowa in 4th gear with high rpms to see if same thing happens under my feet
just so I am not going 90mph lol

also am going to have DT check the balance on the wheels again, tires were rotated about 3k miles ago

Jay, have you jacked up each front corner and given the wheels a side to side and then and up and down shake? This will help you check hub bearings off the list of culprits.

While you are there inspect the tie rods to see if maybe you ran over something and it’s bent one of them.

Also peek at the balance weights on all wheels to see if one was knocked off or moved. Yes, glue on weights can move. Then when you go to put them back on you can check the tires thoroughly- inner sidewalls too - for damage.

Check the main prop shaft - drive shaft - for any marks or dings, while you are there see if you can move the front end around inside the U joints. You shouldn’t have any play. Repeat the process at the tail end and look for U joint or even pinion bearing slop. All bad for business.

Hard to troubleshoot over the internet but hopefully that gives you a short checklist to help narrow down your suspicions.

There is a clamp on your down pipe. Check it. I cut mine off my 95 and 03. I also ripped off every heat shield on the trucks. Notorious for noise at certain rpms
