That's why you skip the front range and traffic and just live in the mountains. :D

    My after work commute today.

Got a question for the HAM guys here...

I was looking at two of the BaoFeng handhelds.

    https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-BF-F8HP-Two-Way-136-174Mhz-400-520Mhz/dp/B00MAULSOK/

    vs

    https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Radio-Black/dp/B007H4VT7A/

Is the 8W capability of the more expensive one necessary for close vehicle-to-vehicle comms? Looking to get something soon before the restrictions on buying them come into effect and since I'm planning to get a license soon.

Not much. I've been holding off on fishing in town as it's still too high. The tailwaters is fishing well from what I hear, but still running high as well.

    What hasn't been modified?
For vehicle to vehicle 5w is fine.
8w will drain the battery faster.
If you think you’ll be upgrading to a larger mounted radio defiantly get an regular antenna and the adapter to the handheld. If not, still get an antenna setup that goes outside the cab.

The cab is a metal box and it seriously kills the range.

I have a mag antenna for those radios if ya wanna borrow it and see the pros and cons

I have a small leak on the union joint (sweat joint) for my sprinkler system vacuum breaker.

Any body have a trusted sprinkler company ? Or I’m thinking maybe use some shark bites to repair or transition to pvc

I have both radios. The 5w is fine for what we do but the battery on the bf f8hp is significantly better than the uv5r. If you're chatty you'll be lucky to get a full day on trail out of the uv5r. I've gotten several days out of the 8w
