I have a 15 year old Bucks Bag float tube. It works fine. Was thinking about a 9 foot pontoon boat. Friend just got one last year and loves it.

I'm happy with the FatCat for drive to alpine lakes. I also have a Creek Company Ultralight that weighs about 10lbs after I stripped everything I could off it. That's my backcountry rig. Fully loaded with fins, waders, rod, bivi sack, mummy bag, stove and food for 3 days I've got that system down to 30 lbs. I live in Bishop and there are more than a few lakes over 10000' within a few mile hike. Getting out on those lakes with a tube and nobody around for miles is truly my favorite type of fishing.

Have you ever been up Shepherd’s Pass to the lake with the Colorado cutthroats?

Nope. No such thing. Doesn't exist.

Here's a hint though. You don't take Shepards Pass to get into Williamson Bowl. lol

Can you take a 4x4 all the way up there or you have to hike?

Hike. You can't get a 4x4 even close. It's one of the steepest hikes in the Sierra. Many, many people want to go. Very, very few actually do. There's over 8000' in elevation gain. It's a really fun hike. lol

Yep. Me too. Whitney picks up 5000' of elevation change in 11 miles. If you top out Williamson it picks up almost 10000' of elevation gain in 11 miles. It's not a hike most people can, or will, make.

    Just rumors like I thought.

Shepherds pass to Williamson seems to make sense if you’re hitting up Tyndall along the way.

It’s a friggin slog. Those switch back seem to go on forever and some of them only gain a few feet for every few hundred feet of walking.

Yeah, Whitney is “easy” in comparison.
I haven’t done the main trail yet. Mountaineers route in the spring is nice though.

    The views aren’t bad.

    Edit: @theesotericone jist noticed you’re in Bishop...jealous.

I was there too around 4-5 years ago when I hiked Machu Picchu. Only about 13k feet though, 4-5 day hike. Was amazing...strenuous but amazing...

The wife and I did about 10 days hiking the Andes, including Machu Pichu. Amazing place. The Pass at 15,000 was next to Mt Salcantay. In the pic you can just see the trail. It goes to the left of the mountain. Mountain is 23,000+
