Have you seen my post about a slide out platform that goes out to 6 1/2 feet? I’ll have to find the link, but it goes together for less than $100 and works really well.

You definitely are going to have to support it, perhaps with legs that extend down to the ground at the end if it extends past the bed, otherwise getting out is going to be really fun! -Not.

I got a big oversized canvas sleeping bag. In colder weather I sleep inside. In warmer weather it IS my mattress and I use some sheets and a blanket. I just tossed it in the back and with the gate down it fits almost perfectly. I sleep somewhat curled up usually so should be fine. Will give it a try next time I go camping.

I did the same until I discovered the USMC sleep system. Get the XXL. Three separate layers for different temps. Just sleep on top of the layers you don’t use. Use all three and it is easily sub zero. Use just the bivy sack for warm weather. Stuffs into a compression sack that is packable on your pack frame. After using mine for a while I pitched everything else. High quality and really that good. They can be found at mil surplus places or online for less than $100 if you look a bit.

Its fun to DIY, keep looking around for ideas, that’s what I did to be able to make it the way I wanted it.

What is your bars setup? I'm looking to do the same on my DB with an RTT. Opening the front panel is important to me since I have the crossbin.
