If you found one you like I would jump on it. I would try to talk them down a bit despite low mileage. I live in So Cal and it took me 6 months to find the right truck.

That's why i won't let the quick oil change boys touch any of my vehicles, not even the dealer. It's a shame but can be true and you don't know till next time around.

Did he weld a castle nut to the top flat of the plug, I hope for your sake,,,,, pipe wrench, impact screwdriver,, one of those special grabber sockets, speak of,
I got one about 15 yrs ago as a x-mas present, threw it in the bottom of the socket drawer, kinda snickered at it when I got it. It was from my ex-SIL, she didn't know any better. I had something here about a month ago for a friend, don't remember what but it was tight space, it is one of those sockets with all the "needles" inside that pushup out of the way and the ones that don't move grip the "whatever" is left. It actually worked and worked well.

    [IMG][IMG]
Sorry about the double post,, intra-neck is not my strong suit, but this is the socket i used and it worked well,, just a thought for you.

$10k for a 4 cylinder 4x4 extra cab is a lot of money. If you’re willing to search all over CA you can find a V6 4x4 double cab for that kind of money.

    I would keep on searching.

I'm not talking about the EZ outs, I was speaking of the socket in the picture to push over the nut you pictured to "grab it", works pretty good on the piece I was helping my friend on.

Yes they are. I am looking for one for my wife. Our daughter has a '98 V6 4wd. Bought it a year or so ago for $3500 w/ 184,000 miles on it. The thing is awesome.

So 10k is a big chunk of change to drop on a 16 year old truck. There are going to to be some “capital expenditures” in your future because things wear out and break. Yeah, even on a 1st gen regardless of how well it was maintained. Not trying to dissuade you, just keep it in mind. May not be a big deal if you’re buying because you want a 1st gen vs you need a truck (sounds like that has been answered earlier) and you can park it until you get the time, money, parts, ambition or whatever to fix it.
Search this forum, there is a great buyers guide that I would add one item to. Check that all the lights light in the dash when you turn the key to accessory. I looked a a truck last year where the guy had disconnected the CEL.

Edit: I found the buyers guide here:

Yeah it is a white 4x4 manual 4 cylinder extracab. It also has a button that say clutch start cancel on the left which I have no clue what that means.

i use mine as a 'theft deterrent system' :D

in the old days MTs that had no button it was VERY dangerous to turn the key to start while in gear
i saw it happen, right through the bay door

i meant which configuration you found difficult to find?

The configuration I got there was only 2 in 200 miles on craigslist. There other one was 6,500 with 300000 miles on its second engine which had 150,000 miles so you know the guy doesn't take car of his vehicle if his four banger had to get replaced at 150,000 plus the inside was torn up and you could see rust in the bed. Which for a southern Californian car isn't a good sign.

    ok I see
i had recently been looking at local used lots for a truck for my nephew that he could learn to drive a 5speed
he told me that the 3.4 v6 with Manual transmission and 4wd is very very rare around here hard to find used
that's the sort of configuration i thought you were mentioning with a 4cyl and MT with an xtracab

23k miles only and 4x4? Now that is worth $10,500.
