OEM Audio+

Just ordered the OEM Audio + reference 500 with dual sub option. Anyone with this system have any instillation tips? Is sound deadening required?

 

Can’t comment on the system directly, but sound deadening never hurts. For a relatively low powered system, I’d venture to say a large swath across the back of the cab behind the storage bins, and the four doors would probably give you your best bang for the buck.

System looks like a fairly easy install, I just wonder about the specs of everything looking at that wire size and only 320 watts total power. If it’s done right, it ought to sound good but I’ve built my own so I guess I look at it differently.

From Houma, La south of New Orleans. Currently at Fort Sam Houston, TX with the Army.

I also ordered the optional sub woofer and dedicated amp so total system power will be 640 rms.

 

I’m on the Northshore, former UH60 Blackhawk mechanic in another lifetime.

One piece of advice is to pay attention to cable management. Do it right, run things where they won’t get smashed or kinked, good grounds with dielectric grease, zip ties, and consider some sort of loom to protect the wires. You do not want to rip the truck apart to figure out where the bad connection is or why you’re popping fuses.

 

I have the single sub and it's great. They have good video on panel removal so watch it a few times. Imo if you are removing a panel for speakers might as well do sound deadening while you're in there if you can afford it. Much better sound. Back panel helped a lot with road noise but I ended up pulling entire interior and did everything. Overkill for many. Lol. As mentioned above, take your time and run wires carefully.

 

Don't use dielectric grease. The (most common) purpose of dielectric grease is to insulate and lubricate spark plug boots. There's absolutely no reason to use it on an electrical ground for your stereo.

 

Since I’ve always advocated sanding to bare metal for efficient grounds, I apply dielectric grease after bolting down a ground to keep moisture out and corrosion at bay.

That is one of the reasons it’s applied to spark plug connections, to inhibit moisture and corrosion. It should not be applied between the grounding lug and grounding surface.

 

I highly recommend adding sound deadening in the doors while you have it apart. It will help a lot. I've used dielectric grease for years in areas where I removed paint as mentioned above.

 

Repaint the area after making your connections is my advice. Grease will get to places you don’t want it.

Value I think is right on the money. I could have designed a system in my own but having everything ready to go plug and play was invaluable to me. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase.

If I could change one thing it would be the power output to the mids and highs to increase the volume. I feel like I have to turn the two subs down a lot to balance the music.

 

They look to make some great stuff, just wish they made something for the access cabs
