When the 2005 Tacoma Gen2 came out, It indeed stole the best-selling crown from Ranger. Before 2005 it was all Ranger.

    I stand corrected!

The Gen 2 was and is Tacoma's best truck to date.

As stated, that sound is compliments of your stereo not the engine. Pretty facking lame if you ask me...

I've been a member of many forums. F150online. TDIClub. Corroland. Odyclub. Once I've rid myself of the car I haven't once had the desire to go back and make post after post after post about my superior new vehicle. Maybe it's because I haven't had many regrets? Thank God. It's pathetic.

How does the stereo fake the sound outside the vehicle ?

It’s being piped through the stereo speakers. It’s not actually the sound of the engine coming through from outside.

Right.. but you said sales continue to grow month by month, but from May to June they dipped.

Ranger should worry about outselling the Frontier first lol

I put it right up there with fake hood scoops, fake exhaust tips, fake whatever-the-hell-it-is "vents" hanging off the back of the Camry, fake grilles covering 90% of new Toyota cars...

Yep... but personally I kind of see a point to those since are done for aesthetic purposes. Not sure about the sound. It’s not as if you don’t know what kind of engine you have since no one else outside the cab will hear it.

But whatever, we all have our likes and dislikes...

I know they do that for the 2.7 and 3.5 but pretty sure they don’t on the 5.0 but could be wrong. Why would they fake v8 sounds on a v8.. and my question was if your standing outside a 5.0 how can you hear the ‘faked’ v8 sound? Are there speakers outside too?

I think they only do that on the turbo vehicles

That was my understanding as well. They want the v6 turbos to sound more like a V8 because that was the main complaint when switching engines was ”well I miss the roar of the v8”.

Well I could be wrong but I read that and what I get out of that is it says Ecoboost mustangs they fake the classic V8 sound... the boss 302 they have special pipes to give a better sound. The 302 doesn’t come threw speakers it goes threw a 2nd exhaust pipe to enhance the sound and make it louder

Yep, that’s what I got. Either way, piping enhanced sound into a cab sounds lame to me. YMMV...

Nowadays, they even have fake exhaust pipes. Both that sporty looking Camry XSE (which has two real pipes and two fake blanks sticking out of the dual mufflers) and a new Audi I saw, which had 4 fake pipes and real turn down dual pipes underneath the car. Shame!

I agree! It’s kinda bs! If you build v6 own it! I understand the 2nd pipe. My buddy owns a TT supra and he has a electronic dump pipe so when he is driving down his road he closes it so the exhaust comes out the pipes and threw a resonator, when he cruised down the hwy or track he opens it and blows away people’s ear drums.

The fake sounds are clearly gearing up for the electric car.

This is what I believe AWE makes for the Allroad and other Audi's. Has a switch to toggle between the options. Sweet but close to 3 grand if I remember right. Reminds me of the Pontiac Humbler superbowl commercial that got banned for some reason:
