Hey all can anyone help me with how to loosen the belt tensioner to remove the belt on a 3rd gen. I saw there some kind a pin you need to mess with?? Or can you just turn it counter clockwise like a normal tensioner.

    Thanks

    Thanks splitbolt !!
So if I am seeing this correctly you loosen it put a pin in to hold it loose while remove the belt then take the pin out to allow to spring back once your done. My question is, is the the pin necessary.

I'd use the pin for 2 reasons.
It makes routing the belt easier and doesn't allow the tensioner to possibly extend passed it's range of operation.

Why are you messing with a belt on a new truck? Can,t you bring it to the dealer? Maybe I am missing something

Long story but the idler pulley has a wobble. The dealer say it’s normal for the truck. I said I have friends with the same truck theirs has 0 wobble. So they won’t replace it. It’s 1 bolt so I figured I would do it easy enough. When the compressor for the ac kicks on I think it’s making a load rattle. They say no we don’t hear anything of course. Check it out yourself tell me what do you think.

Looks bad to me. If I had a car in for a noise, I would definitely recommend replacing that pulley.

My driver side idler pulley has the exact wobble as yours. I was told normal per the dealer at my 10k service. First noticed it while hunting hours from any service (was checking for chipmunks under the hood). So far no changes in about a year.

Edit: there are a few threads on here with guys having the same wobble. Dealer has told them the same as well. Not saying they are right. My farm buddy mechanic says any wobble on an idler is bad. But I can’t get Toyota to man up for anything so being documented is the best i can do.

Thanks for the heads up. shit just does not seem right to me. It’s a simple fix for them. But I assume Toyota will not reimburse the dealer so the dealer won’t do it! Bite the 60 bucks and do it myself
