Relentless 1st gen front bumper install

Anyone know of a guide for the bumper install?

Their site does not have one for the first gen.

I'm sure it's pretty strait forward, but the older I get the more I like to prepare before jumping into things. I swear, any chance I give Murphy, he gingerly obliges.

 

No guide available but it's basic hand tools. Ratchet and wrenches in common Toyota sizes, 10mm, 12, 14, 17, 19mm.
Front bumper comes off with screws under the bottom lip, the turn signal lights unplugged, 2 main brackets under/behind at the side of the frame near the sides of the radiator and 2 more nuts on a bracket on the upper/back corners of the bumper in the wheel well.
Then the impact bar behind the bumper cover comes off and the 2 extension horns holding it to the frame ends, the skid comes off and the tow hooks come off too, lastly those 2 brackets near the fender that held the original bumper must come off. The nuts holding them are under under the hood and the air filter box on the passenger side and under the battery on the driver side.
New bumper now bolts on via 2 frame end bolts where the crush bar extension horns attached to the frame, the 4 bolt locations from the tow hooks, and our braces go under the sides of the bumper and tie in to the frame side brackets where the factory bumper mounted. Adjust height so the bumper has about 1/2 to 5/8" clerance between the fenders and use some of the included washers between the frame and the tabs on the bumper where it attaches to the tow hook locations. That will hold the height once tightened down fully. Install is usually about 2-3 hours for the bumper, add time if installing winch and lights. With all the accessories going in too it becomes a full day project for most.

 

Eric once I remove "the 2 extension horns holding it to the frame ends" what do I reconnect the skid to ?

 

My understanding is the new bumper has skid mounting points for that purpose

 

I think I got screwed, bought mine second hand from some guy Tacoma world. it doesn't have any mounting points at the bottom of the bumper just straight across not even a place to drill into

Yes you could, you'd need to reach out to us via email to get that set up. I actually have one other customer that reached out last week with a similar situation with a kit bumper he got.....
FYI this bumper you bought happens to be one of our old DIY kit bumpers that was sold in pieces and someone put together in their garage(one way you can tell with the photo someone attached has our 'R' on the under part of the sides on the bumper vs the logo delete/round hole cut there on the kit version).

Things like this issue is part of why we discontinued them a few years ago. Unfortunately there were a lot of guys that were doing them as their first welding project and simply didnt have the welding and mechanical knowhow and some of their handy work started to bleed off onto our reputation for our fully built bumpers and we couldn't have that.

 

Wow. I have a 220v Mig but I would not want a bumper to be my first project. Can attest the welds on your bumpers are beautiful- kudos to your team over there.

Eric I know you guys are verry busy, however I have sent you guys a couple of e-mails back in July regarding obtaining a skid pan mounting bracket do you have any word on this for me?
