I can't remember but this kinda sounds like the issues @austinmtb has when he had a clogged cat.

 

My cats are only a couple of years old. Last time I had an cat issue I got a code for exhaust. I’ll wait and see if that guy chimes in.

 

Carbon build up is a sign of running too rich. Air cleaner clean? Any critters nesting in the intake tube? Leaves or crap in the intake before the air cleaner? The engine struggling to make power, yet idles fine, is a sign it's not getting good air flow.

 

Ok, yes I put a new air filter in and cleaned the MAF sensor. Intake tubes and air cleaner are clear.

@Squeaky Penguin Just checked the new plug and it still looks new without any carbon build up.

 

Is that spark plug wet after running? I can't remember if you confirmed that that cylinder is getting fuel or not. Maybe the fuel rail is clogged on that port?

Its possible your cats are clogged and exhaust isn't being allowed to vacate the cylinders. Seems unlikely since your not getting a P0420 code or other misfires. On this train of thought maybe your exhaust valve is stuck shut. This would still give you good compression. Ill put a chocolate bar on the line and bet this is it seeing as most other options have been checked.

Maybe a bad connection in the ignition circuit? I know you had spark but maybe something is loose and a certain position its fine and another its not.

 

I think that idea could be confirmed with a leak down test. On the exhaust stroke the intake valve should be closed and the exhaust open. If its not leaking it would indicate that your exhaust valve is stuck shut.

 

Fuel rails where clear when I put them together. Doubt it's the cats because like you said no exhaust codes going off. I've had that happen to me before.

I should try a leak down test to check my valves. I didn't think of it possibly being a stuck valve.

Read up on the thread Monte linked. That's a very good resource.

I bought some alignment turn tables and toe plates to make it easier, but even they're not needed.

You could do it with no more than a couple tape measures, a straight piece of scrap steel that fits your wheels, and a digital angle finder.

 

My toe plates are made by Longarce. Not sure on the turn tables, they were some cheap ones off Amazon or fleabay.

 

Marc had some too. They worked okay at best to reference off of. Pretty pricey for what they were really.

I think Id rather use two sheets of plastic or something.

Edit: Sorry was talking plates for the wheels to sit on. Toe plates where the same as bretts and worked. Barely fit the bit ass tires haha

 

The biggest benefit to them is not the angle measurement used for caster measuring, it's that every little change can instantly be measured. Makes adjusting things way easier.

Without them, the tires bind and you really have to move the truck back and forth to get an accurate measurement.

 

Id try that, its free, and it should work just as good.

 

Yes. Added bonus if you can rig a way to measure 20 degrees in each direction to make measuring caster easier.

Yeah it's a lot better spot on top of the frame then on the side.

Yep, finally using it. Don't have time to finish it now, but it bolts up and will work for this weekend. That was a lot of work for an afternoon.
