tryin to get some ideas

hey guys i am getting ready to order a 3" lift for my truck. i cant decide if i want 285's or 265's. i want my truck to look good but i also want to keep a little bit of my gas mileage. if any of you have pix of trucks with a 3" and 265s or 285s would you mind posting them for me??

Just wanted to state that you can get different heights of 285 and 265 based on whether you get the next number a 70 or 75 as this is actually the height factor of a tire. The 285/265 only indicates the width of the tire. Hope that helps cause you can get either a 31" or 32" with 265 and a 32" or 33" with a 285. Just some things to think about.

hey thanks zero niner, i gues i should have been a little more specific. right now i have 265/75/16 toyo mts and my mileage went down just because of those tires because they are so heavy. i wasnt really thinking when i bought them one of those impulse buys ya know. anyways i was thinking about getting a little bit bigger and lighter tire so maybe my gas mileage will stay about the same. what do you guys think?

 

Well you can always go skinny and tall and remember that different load rating tires are different weights too. I use Tirerack.com for comparisons and getting the weights and dimensions. If you're concerned with the weight and mpg, sounds like you may be looking at getting a 265/75R17, this way you have the height you're looking for, an inch taller and then just look at getting some 17" rims. Or you could play with the tire calculator and see what will work for you.

Hey, I just noticed you put on bigger tires with your stock lift, do you have pics you could post of your truck with the tires? I have the 5100's all around and only a 1.75" lift in front and 1" in back and was thinking of just going to your tire size, 265/75R16. Thanks in advance.

Oops, just saw your post. Are those black wheels aftermarket? Or did you paint them, black wheels always make the tires look so much bigger! Looking good!

 

this is my truck now. 1 1/2 inch leveling kit with 265/75/16 toyo mts. And yes those are aftermarket wheels

tell me about it these toyo mt are a really good tire but they weigh a ton. you dont really need a 10 ply tire on a tacoma but they just look so cool. my plan is to keep these tires for winter and get some new lighter ones for summer
