That's pretty good. The most I have ever seen out of a the first 1/4 tank going down past full is about 72 miles. So about 24 miles extra.

Why did Toyota not do this from the factory? I am having a really hard time believing this had to do with emissions. A more complete burn is always the proper end goal.

    My shit is all stock.
Certainly it’s for emissions. These gears are increasing overlap. That’s more unburnt fuel down the exhaust. That’s a no-no in smog town. Efficiency and power be damned...

Yeah to hell with efficiency and power right? Because lord forbid we get a more complete burn. Lol.

I would bet money it has to do with emissions. They aren't trying to build a truck with performance in mind, but instead selling as many units as they can. And if this and the stupid secondary air pump system make the government happy, Toyota is happy to oblige.

My 12 doesn't have an EGR either. Do you mean the SAI? Because that was a thing starting from 2012 moving on forward.

Sorry I confuse my diesel and gas worlds a bit. But this was to be in compliance of the zev program before the maturity fate.

Alright guys, need some help from the experts. Got the gears in, thought all went well. Fired up, idles rough, 2,4,6 misfire codes. Pulled driver cam cover back off, gear is on key way perfect. What am I missing @Torspd @loginfailed @mightytacoman

Could something on the other side throw this side off?

Sorry to call on y’all on the fourth

Only thing I can think of is that on that bank (2,4,6) the chain is maybe a tooth off.

Put the crank back to TDC cylinder 1 and recheck the cam timing.

Yes, pull both sides and check everything at the same time (no pun intended).

Lol, looking at it I think I see the problem. I didn’t have timing marks on the new gear but the keyway is a tooth off from the mark on the head. Gonna pull the other side and I’ll report back. Thanks again man.

I’m sure you’ll see what’s up once you get a look in there. Sucks how this type of stuff always happens late in the day!

Glad you got it figured out. Don't be afraid to shoot me a message next time. I'll do my best to answer but family events today kept me away from my phone..
On a positive note, I finally got through a tank of gas with what I'll call grandpa driving. In the past with the trucks current set up I haven't been able to get past 230 miles on the trip meter before the gas light comes on. Tires are 13% larger than stock. 230*1.13=259.9 miles a tank. Today I was able to get 244 before the gas light came on. 244*1.13= 275.2. That means 15.8 miles gained on a tank of fuel driving the same routes I always do!! That's pretty huge I think. Truck isn't set up for mileage by 20190704_203657.jpg 20190704_213859.jpg any means as shown.
