Alright, so another noob here. I've got a problem where if I hit a bump hard enough it seems like my back end goes sideways. What could that be? What should I check? I also feel like my coil overs might be bad considering that they're stock.

What condition are the shocks in? How many miles on it?
These trucks are light in the back end. If your turning hard enough and fast enough it will feel like the back end will sidestep.

I don't know how to check what condition they are in, my father in law shook the truck from bumper and I guess from that he could tell that they were bad.
The truck has 162k on it.
I'm not hitting turns when it does this. It's just bumps. Honestly it feels like my front end goes a little crazy.

The real question is just how fast are you going?/

Hitting a bump at speed with an empty truck does tend to make things bounce

So which is it? Back or front?

If the vehicle has original shocks, they needed replacement about 100k ago.

Assuming no rust issues, the rears are super easy to remove. Pull one off and test it.

BTW, a 'puck lift' and 33's do nothing to help ride quality. When were those installed? By whom? Often that's the time for new shocks, while things are apart.

And the 'custom bumper'. What is that? If it's a lot of weight...........

    162k - 100k = 62k

Toyota's OEM shocks last longer than that don't they?
under 'normal' use and no mods?

Not really. They may have some life left in them, but they are well below their prime.

It's not easy to notice the change of condition, as the deterioration is slow.

Outside of using an actual shock testing tool, just removing one of the rears and comparing it by hand to a new one will give a lot of indication of condition.

cause I would definitely like to replace the rear shocks (mostly because of the midwest weathering of 22yrs), but only if actually necessary, i have no idea how long Toyota parts last :notsure: i have read they can go for a very long time but depends on use of

mine still seem 0k and in good working condition, I haven't transported any real heavy loads in awhile, but the back end does not keep bouncing around on the local Krap80 freeway or the stretch in Iowa I do some test driving on (its bad as you can imagine, no pavement holes, just a frenzy of microbumps at 65mph)

I'm not going faster than the speed limit, of the times it has gone sideways I'm going over a shitty road at about 30mph. One time was I on the highway and I hit a bump and it went sideways on me. The bumper was made in Mexico apparently, if I had to guess I'd say it's no more than 150lbs.
