Got both coats of stain on then glued in the brass inserts. Was dark last night and rainy this morning so I’ll try and get some better photos when the sun comes back out.

Instead of dried in a normal kiln, thermally modified wood is "cooked" in a special, oxygen-less kiln, where it's raised to a very high temperature. This seals up a lot of the cellular structures, making it extremely resistant to insects, rot, moisture absorption, etc. It's supposed to be much more durable in exterior applications.

The brass inserts give it a nice pop. Reminds me of a coffee table my uncle did years back, he defaced a few pennies and used them as inserts.

Finally finished. I guess time to start on a patio table. Took some photos in the sun when I got home. They look great. My favorite thing people have said so far is “They look like you could buy them at the store”.

The brass inlays really look great in the shade or the sun.

Anyone ever use epoxy to finish off the tops of your cornhole boards? Have only seen it once and it looks super clean. But wasnt sure if it makes the surface to slick. Hopfully I can get some good input here and will help me decide if I want to go that route or with the standard urethane options.

Wife and I are spending a long weekend sanding, staining, and varnishing a used door purchased from a friend doing some remodeling. It was pretty beaten down by years and weather, but should be better than new shortly.
