You are confused on what you are saying. You made it sound like you paid 33,700 and got a trade deal. That’s not what you did, you paid 43,800 and then traded in your 4Runner to lower your loan amount.

Btw you got a real bad deal paying the dealer 43,800 for that truck. Without the added dealer stuff you can get it for 36-37K. Which means you paid $7,000 for the lift, wheels and tires which cost maybe $2,000.

What you fail to understand is you played the dealers game. You never want to deal with them on price with a trade in. You deal only on the sale price of the new vehicle. Shop around, get the lowest price on the truck. Then after you have the price you want you negotiate the trade in separate. You played their numbers game and got hosed for thousands.

They sweetened the trade in to make you feel better about taking a crappy deal. $30k is the proper trade in value for a 4R with the specs you posted. Also, why are you focusing on the payoff? Negotiate the value of the vehicle with the dealership, not the price that you want to pay. You got screwed the moment you stopped focusing on the value of the truck. You payed for a Pro but got an OR. Hopefully you plan to drive this truck longer than your 4R because you're not gonna be too happy when you decide to trade this one in...

Oh damn, you didn’t get premium either. Jesus they really took you for $10k. I bough the same exact truck for 33,800, you paid 10k for the lift and wheels. Ouch!!!

Welcome to America! Where value doesn't matter as long as I can afford my monthly payments! This is why I negotiate with the dealer as if I don't currently own a vehicle. You know they're going to lie to you so there's no sense in telling them the truth until you get a price you like.

I get it now on the pro they would not have gave you 33.5 for your trade and they would have stuck to sticker -- makes sence . The thread is how much are you paying , you should've said MSRP 48K paid 43.8K that's what started this mess . Enjoy the truck looks great .

I thought this was an amazing deal until I saw the paper work.

That truck would've cost $44,598.79 OTD (selling price + tax + fees). It would've been a good deal if it was 40K OTD with all of those accessories and lift installed.

They enticed you with the high trade in value for your 4runner just to make it all back and then some at the end by overcharging you by about 4k for the Tacoma.

I think the dealer got more money than what they wanted in this case.

Love your long bed DC Tacoma. Looks great in white with the black TRD wheels. What brand of lift did your dealership install?

I'd put money on Rough Country. Every time someone posts pictures of the list of dealer add-ons and there's a lift, it's RC. They buy them from RC for 75% retail and then sell them at a 200% markup.

So you paid $43,xxx for your Tacoma. Looks like most people are getting ORs for $34-35k, conservatively speaking you paid $8000 for a lift, tires, and wheels.

Bottom line on trade in deals is that the dealer will give you whatever you want for your trade if you pay enough for what they are selling you, it's the spread between the two that matters to them.

This is how I see it . Truck with teck is 36k , dealer add ons with the nice wheels is 3k so he got a 39k truck . Now they gave him $3,500 to much for his trade so take that off the 43.8k and you come up with 40.3k and the truck was worth 39k so at worst he paid $1,300 to much and he didnt have to go get a lift and wheels and such and he's happy .

No, a DCLB OR with tech is 34k. He paid 44k, which is 10k more. The lift/tires/wheels would have cost no more then $3000 being generous. He paid 7k too much for the truck at minimum. We have no idea the condition, options etc of his trade in so who knows what deal he got on that.

That's not how it works. The $3.5k too much for the trade came off the MSRP. And remember, he had sunk $10k into the 4R in two years. So he essentially made a $10k down payment on a truck that is worth MAYBE $39k and he still has to finance $33k. I would love to know the rate he is paying on that loan.

Rule number one and rule number two , first fight for the price of the truck with no hidden fees and second fight for the price of the trade , dont let them play any kind of number games and third get the best interest rate available to you .

Good advice, learned this and it goes much smoother. Although I typically prefer private party sales to just avoid them then go in with the funds but also not disclosing that until price is done.

I test drove a local TRD Sport 6speed then shopped around.

Found my TRD OR outside of D.C and flew in cheap. Premium and Tech package.

Almost 40k MSRP and paid 35,100 out the door. No trade in, always sell your old ride.
