At least I remember it being a Dodge Ram.

Anyways, it's the Friday after Independence Day and I'm in the office and bored so thought I'd share something that happened to me yesterday. I was driving on the 405S in Irvine when a little blue Hyundai, who I guess didn't realize was in an off-ramp lane, swerved back into my lane nearly hitting me. I used my cat-like reflexes and pumped my brakes and honked my horn for a good 3-5 seconds. I see the driver of the Hyundai look in the rear view mirror but gave no other acknowledgement of cutting me off and nearly plowing into the front of my truck. I thought to myself "what a fuckin' idiot and asshole," moved left one lane to not be directly behind him, and quickly forgot about the incident because I was heading to a 4th of July bbq and I wasn't going to let something as little as that ruin my day. Well, I guess the Dodge Ram who was several cars back and witnessed the whole thing thought differently. Seeing that I let the issue go, he sped up and cuts off the little Hyundai, slows down, then shoots me a thumbs up and smiles. I waved back in gratitude.

To the Ram driver (even though what you did was dangerous and I don't usually condone retaliation), cheers to you, you fellow great 'Merican!

Probably a boring story for everyone. I'm just trying to get through the day.

Hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th!

    A few.
Maybe the Hyundai driver did the same thing to him prior to doing it to you?

I agree...too much road rage and it was in innocent mistake on the Hyundai driver's part. That's why I didn't think too much of it and let it go.

I appreciate the Ram driver's thought rather than the act.

No doubt he was wrong and made a mistake. Yes we have all been there at some point. If I were to do something that stupid and dangerous the first thing I’m going to do is gesture to the other driver implying “ I’m sorry and please forgive my stupidity”. This guy obviously didn’t do that. Unfortunately driving skills and driving etiquette are different in other countries. I drive that same stretch of freeway and have worked for the same company in IRVINE for 29 years and I can tell you it’s a very ethnically diverse community. Driving skills and manners don’t exist! But yeah the guy in the dodge probably shouldn’t have done what he did. Could have back fired and ruined a lot of people’s day. Not worth it.

Yup, everyone makes mistakes at one point or another. It's just part of being human. Acknowledging and apologizing for those mistakes goes a long way, which the Hyundai driver didn't do for whatever reasons.

Try driving in San Gabriel, Rosemead, or Alhambra. Irvine drivers will look like driving instructors in comparison. Haha.

I once ran into a girl named Rachel at the bark park and her ornery english bulldog bit me in the calf and then looked up at me like it was no big deal. So as I was resting on the bench taping myself up Rachel was telling me it was my fault and grabbed my burrito and started feeding it to her dog. I was taken back by her actions, but she said when I called her dog a little c#%t I hurt his feelings. The police were called and I was the one arrested for using abusive language in a dog park. Apparently other dog moms don't like the c word . The dog was also impounded for lack of evidence of a rabies shot and no license. When I went to court you're not going to believe this shit, but me and the dog were sentenced for 10 hours of sensitivity training. What's really weird is Rachel hit me up on POF, she wants to go on a date, but I don't date waitresses. I don't want Josh in the dish-pit to lose his walk-in cooler main squeeze he really has taken a fancy to her. He hopes when he graduates college he can buy her a new life where her flowers can bloom and something about a new car all shiny and new. Maybe a house in the west hills.

Haha. Sorry to laugh at your misfortunes if this is true, but this has to be made up right? Arrested for using the c word?! If someone's dog bit me for no apparent reason I should have the right to call the dog whatever I want.

Life is too short for crap like this. Also, do you realize how many drivers are packing heat nowadays? Cuss the asshole out in the privacy of your own vehicle and let it go. I copied Russian drivers recently: I purchased a dash cam and record everything that happens in front of my vehicle.

I used to get worked up over people doing stupid stuff while driving, but it's not worth it. Just be glad there wasn't an accident and move on. Have to stay on the defense at all times.

Side note: I took a defensive driving course this year (job required) and one of the best things I took from it was how to adjust your mirrors properly. Guess I've been doing it wrong for years. What's recommended is the following:
    • Drivers Side Mirror: From the drivers position, put your head on the drivers side window and move the mirror until you just see the edge of vehicle.
    • Passengers Side Mirror: From the drivers position, lean over until you are centered with rear view mirror and move the mirror until you just see the edge of vehicle.
Once you do this, and move back to your normal driving position, it will look really weird. But what happens is, the mirrors now fully cover your blind spots to the side. You can see a vehicle coming from behind, pass you on either side and never lose sight of them in your mirrors until they have come into full view. Again, it was weird at first for me, but has made a huge difference and I'm never going back to how I use to adjust mirrors.

Thankfully the Ram driver didn't cause some pileup and ruin the 4th for a bunch of people.

I often wonder how many male full size pickup truck drivers suffer from the small pecker syndrome.
