Just out of curiosity is it even practical to get a 2ch for the tacoma? Im thinking the rear cam would mostly show just the bed. I ask because i had a blackvue single channel on my 17 that got totaled, thinking of getting a 2 ch on my next truck. Also do youhave pictures of where you mounted the b-124 battery? I might go that route next time too

 

When or maybe if I ever get a dashcam, I was gonna look into mounting the rear cam on the assembly that holds the builtin rear cam.

It would really be nice if someone had figured out how to tie the builtin rear cam into the dashcam. Maybe buy the 2 channel front but not buy the rear cam because I'd be tying it into the builtin cam. I'd rather use the builtin cam for aesthetics.

 

It is practical for 2CH, though not required, I suppose. Yes, you will see a lot of your bed in the shot but you will still get quality video of traffic behind you. I originally had the B-124 just leaning against the center console in the passenger footwell but I have since moved it to under the passenger seat. The cords are routed through the center console. The battery is secured using some heavy load velcro tape I picked up from Lowe's.

Are you talking about integrating the rear camera that's in the tailgate handle? I suppose you could use that as a dashcam, but that camera is only powered on when you shift to R (or if you get a mod to otherwise use it whenever). Plus, it's a fisheye lens and is canted downward (all useful traits for a backup camera, less so for a dashcam). Up to you, though. There doesn't look to be a whole lot of room to integrate another camera back there, either. For reference, my rearview Blackvue is mounted on the driver's side window, inside the cab.

 

I was just spitballing. I already have the front/rear cam wiring harness that allows the use of the steering wheel Mode switch to view the cams on the Entune radio. I'd think it wouldn't be too hard to integrate the rear cam into the wiring. It's above my paygrade though.

 

There are kits that use RCA cables to feed into a DVR, but you'd still have to figure out how to convert the dashcam to that.

 

We have had a DR590W-2CH on the truck since March, installed with a PMP set to 12v.


Rear camera is mounted inside the rear window and points out through the canopy - keeps an eye on my stuff in the back while I'm parked. Parked in the driveway the parking mode usually lasts 5pm to around 5am, depending on the amount of cars going by.

When it's parked away from motion/traffic it will last more than 24hrs.
