Wouldn't do under the truck anywhere. You'll want access to it if possible.

Yes, I have a toolbox. No space in my current one, but I have an old Knaack box I can use. Curious if there's any other mounting spots anyone else has used.

 

One of mine is mounted in the corner of the bed, right behind the cab. The other is sitting on top of the driver side fender in the engine bay. I needed to move some EVAP lines and such but the mv50 fits like a glove there.

 

If you don't need the space under the back seats you could close one side off from the top and open it up from the bottom and mount there.

 

Celebrated the 20th anniversary of the day I bought Ruby. Starting to think about selling, but not an easy decision. Such a great vehicle.

In the end, I went with a CO2 tank.

Not a bad idea to prime the oil pump and/or filter before engine sees combustion again, since it's been drained.

 

They actually have little systems you can add to your engine oil, basically it's a small electric oil pump you add in line to existing. This allows oil system to be at full pressure before it fires up while its cranking and 'avoids dry starts' supposedly. Toyota didn't see it important enough to add from the factory so I'd guess the benefit is prolly very little.

 

There was some talk on here awhile back about how many people see the red oil lantern light flicker for the first couple seconds after the first startup following an oil change. My truck does it. After an oil change, I fire up the engine and the oil lantern light stays on for a second afterward (not long) then goes away. Never does it again until after the next oil change.

I figured it was because the new oil filter is empty and it takes an extra second to fill up which maybe triggers that light for a split sec

 

Was thinking of mounting it under the bed, don’t want any clutter in the bed itself.

Still have the crazy idea to run an old AC compressor as an air compressor.

I was thinking about trying that next time, I know some people mentioned that on here once. Just seems like more of a mess with how our oil filters go on but seems worth a try

 

What are your plans for wheeling this rig? Not a lot of guys find it necessary to have oba. A little viair compressor or the like seems to work for most people. Just seems like youre being a little extra for a truck thats primarily a pavement princess right now. Id spend the money elsewhere personally, or save it.

 

Yeah that's exactly what's going on. The pressure sensor switch doesn't feel that oil pressure against it until the filter fills up. So if you're doing your changes like within 30 minutes of turning the engine off, there will still be a bit of oil lubricating through the passages and galleys etc.
If you're doing your oil change after it sat over night I'd be inclined to Pre fill the filter a bit and/or pull the efi fuse under the hood until oil light goes out. Then fire it up. Even then prolly not necessary but it can't hurt anything to do it. And you can't argue against the fact that it does make sure the engine oil is fully primed when it sees combustion by doing it that way. But likely not NECESSARY. BITOG forums might have some data on that. I'm kinda curious now

 

I'm always envious of other guys' OBA setups when I see them but I'm happy with my Viar 300p. They make a 400p too which would be even faster, probably some models that are even better. But everyone I know that runs OBA setups like the ARB does it because it's primary use is for an air locker

 

I want a tank for running air tools. Not necessarily only airing up tires. I do some remote repairs and I usually have to carry a tank with me.

 

should i be embarrassed to say i have never change oil in my truck, dealer has always done it since the very 1st change at 1k miles in IL

i did change lots of oil in my teens as a lubeTech with benefit of an open pit

 

Good to know. I always do my changes when the truck is warm, maybe 20-30 min after shutting it off (not a fan of getting hot oil splatter on me).

What's interesting is back when I used to take my truck into Oilstop (local drive thru place) the light never came on when starting up after they were done, but they'd be done in 20 min or so and of course I had just driven in so it was still hot.

Either that or they never actually bothered to change my oil filters lol. Any way about it I do all that stuff myself now but I'll put some oil in the filter next time and see how that goes.

 

No shame in that, I do it myself now but not so much to save the money...but more because I enjoy doing it. Everyone's got different priorities and interests.
