I have a flagpole that is mounted in the corner of my driveway. Trunk is rusted to hell as is a good portion of the pole.

Thing is, for the life of me, I can't get it to rotate to lift out. I don't see a cross pin or anything holding it in the ground sleeve, but it isn't moving. Also it is a steel pole and heavy as all hell.

Any suggestions on how I might go about removing it? I'd prefer to refresh and keep it rather than cut it off at ground level.

Have you tried applying some heat with a propane torch? Generally in these situations, heat is your friend.

True. I'm not sure if it is a threaded pole on a base, it it slips on (it has a tapered section like sewer pipe does), or it is is just a heavy ass pole mounted in a sleeve. Gonna have to go get some and douse it. The pole won't lift or rotate a millimeter, but it will "swirl" around in the hole a little bit

Where the pole meets the concrete has a flare like this.

I will when I get home from work. Prob about a 2.5 or 3 inch OD at the base. Prob about 20-25 feet tall.

    That I haven't done...mainly cuz I don't have one. Maybe I need one.

Is the pole flared, or is it a cover. If the cover pops up, there may be a pin or bolt under it to lock the pole in place.

Flared. No flashing plate or anything to obscure a cross pin, etc.

Looks exactly like this, except vertical. Goes to almost flush with the concrete. It is in a ground sleeve, but I can't tell of there is a threaded base potion of pole or something inside of said sleeve.

I'm a fairly mechanically inclined person, and how this thing is assembled truly baffles me.

Looks like a old style threaded collar, like on old drill steel.

So the pole wobbles around in the ground sleeve just under that flare. There isnt a solid connection.

Scratch the joint of the flare and pipe, maybe it is just cleanly layed lead or ?
Otherwise, my best though would be to

If you can spin it to confirm its not threaded, I would recommend clamping or strapping a block to it real well and then try jacking it up with a bottle jack or two to see if you can get any vertical movement. It may just be a slip fit

or a chain and hi-lift as mentioned to do the same

Since it wobbles in the ground sleeve, I think the bottom may just be seized in the hole.

May need to devise a post lift system after all.
