One of the bolt holes on my engine cooling shroud broke, and unfortunately it’s the one closest to the engine coolant tank. Last time I was off-reading I popped the hood to hook up my air compressor, and noticed that the cap on the coolant tank was off. What I think is happening is the broken bolt is letting the tank flop around and is spilling coolant.

If I order the replacement part, how hard is it to fix vs having the dealership do it?

Looks like this is the relevant part of the service manual.

    http://www.ttguide.net/removal-718.html

Can I perform 11 (DISCONNECT RADIATOR RESERVE TANK HOSE) and then 13 (REMOVE FAN SHROUD) without all of the prior steps?

Guess I'm mis-understanding. How do you break a "Bolt Hole"??

Looks like it to me, just go slow and make sure you don’t miss something attached to the shroud. Won’t even need the fan clutch wrench if you remove the viscous coupling.

The plastic tabs on the top of the shroud that stick out have holes in them - a bolt goes through them to attach the shroud. On the passenger side that tab broke off from the shroud. Easier to understand if you look at the parts diagram in the first post.

I think you might be right. I've ordered the shroud; if nothing else, even if I have the dealership or a shop fix it the part will be cheaper.

How about JB Weld...? The tab still there..?

Tab is there, but not a lot of material to use JB weld on.

The tab had a metal ring molded into it. The bolt, with washer, went through this hole and then threaded into a metal nut that is held in by plastic tabs on the back of the radiator. The bolt appears to be a M6x1, and the washer on the factory bolt is barely larger than the bolt itself. When the tab broke it freed the metal ring.

As a temporary fix, I bought an M6 bolt and a 1 inch wide washer. There is still about half of the plastic left that originally held the metal ring, so I held the ring in place, and then then put the new bolt & washer in. There is enough material for the much larger washer to hold the shroud in place, and seems to be working after driving around for a day.

Yeah... try the JB weld and stick the washer on and go from there..

    Good Luck

Just noticed I had the same issue on my 2020. Fan shroud mount near the coolant tank snapped at the bolt. Anyone else had this happen?

Recently discovered the same issue on my 2020 with 65k miles. I 3D Printed a tab to hold the shroud in place. So far it works great, and beats buying a $150 OEM shroud and installing it.

You plan on making more? I’d pay for two.
