    She sounds much better but for some reason my VCM quit connecting to my truck, says it can’t find it now. I’m downloading a fresh copy and gonna try that before I let it idle too long unchecked.

    So marking the chain isn't important. Making sure that the keyway is at TDC is..... do I understand you correctly?

    That’s what I found. Use the tooth above the keyway as your marker and make sure it’s on the timing marks on both sides. Mine moved over a half a link for the timing to be correct.

    As is I dont think so but are you referring to the 3° offset or the lack of gear taper?
    I think @mightytacoman is running the @JustDSM gears with his 3° keyway machining only purposely to test on his own ride for our benefit. Thanks @mightytacoman!!!

    Send your gears this way, I'll get you taken care of. To answer your question, instead of taking the time to put a timing mark in relation to the new keyway that is 3° off, what I do is only bevel the new keyway on the back side so that it is clear which keyway is the one I made and to show which way should be facing front. When installing the gear, if you can only see one bevel, then it is facing the correct way. (see below)

    This is the front of the gear with my 3° keyway on the bottom. Notice it is not beveled. Draw with a marker or whiteout etc. a line to the tooth that is most closely aligns to.

    This is the back of the gear. The side that will face the engine. Here you can see the bevel I did which aids with install.

    Here is the stock gear with the keyway facing up (yellow arrows). If you look closely at the chain itself, you can see a link on the backside that is painted orange from the factory (under blue arrow). The orange chain link wont align perfectly with the keyway every turn of the crank so you might have to turn the engine over by hand a few times to get this orientation. Once in this orientation, the chain is already marked for you as to which link the new keyway/tooth will go into.

    Here is the re-machined gear installed. 2nd bevel not visible so its in correct orientation. You can see that the new keyway and its closet aligned tooth is right back in on the orange link (marked in red here)


    try to re-sync the interface under the help tab.

    I am running a factory gear with my 3° cut in it. I installed the justdsm gears temporarily to confirm fitment in place and to turn the engine over a few times by hand to see if it would play nicely with the chain. Never put the truck back together fully and turned it on with those gears in it.

    All good notes, I did get VCM back up and running last night. Went for a quick spin, didn’t beat on it, felt good. I’m gonna pull some good logs when I finish my coffee and see what @JustDSM has to say about them.

    My gears are successfully installed. Truck is back together and purring like a tiger :D

    However it's hard to give a butt dyno comparison because I added a ton of other performance mods and a new tune. Plan is to dyno soon to see what the numbers are.

    For those installing by themselves, here's a little trick I used to hold the cam Wrench in place while breaking & torquing the cam gear bolt. I didn't have a pipe or wrench big enough to fit over the 24mm so I strapped it in place while I broke the bolt free. Worked well for me.

    Well that makes 3 of us that are running the remachined gear I've been doing. So far sounds like a success! Waiting to hear more on @DiamondW impressions as his is apples you apples where as @JacksonTacoma redid everything at once

    From what I can tell I like them. I guess I shouldn’t have tried to install yesterday, because all I did was make a mess. Test drive felt good but didn’t sound perfect. Popped the cam covers back off and I’m pretty sure I either broke a chain tensioner, or it was already shot and I finished it off. I’ve got no upward pressure from the one on the passenger side. Currently looking to get a new set delivered before I go back to work on Monday. I’ve never had this much hell on a project, guess it wasn’t my day.
