Did you pull the old “I have a strict budget of $——-, take it or leave it” with your salesman? Purchase on the last day of the month?

Second to last day of the month. Dealership was Koons Toyota. They have 3 dealerships in the area and sell 800 Toyota's a month!

    It's complicated.
The 2020 Tacoma's are being heavily advertised--I'd bet on paying MSRP, if not more, for the foreseeable future.

That could be THE BEST time this year, to pick up (ha ha, see how I snuck that in...) a loaded 2019 Tacoma, for a great price.

    Let us know what happens.

I just picked up my new truck this past Monday july 1st. Feel i got a good deal. Sticker was a little over 42k. I paid 35k for a trd offroad 4x4 with tech and blackout packages. Supposedly and i do not know if it is true or not but they told me that the 1st is actually considered the last day of the sales month for toyota. Picked up from cavender toyota. A volume dealer here in san antonio, TX. They are supposedly a top 5 volume dealer in the Gulf state region. They actually told me to go to another dealer get a price and then come to them and they would beat it. Excited to start playing with the new truck.

Can anyone comment on this offer from the dealer for a 2019 2WD SR5 double cab?I feel like 25.1k is very fair. 5.5k is what carmax offered for my trade in and actually seems a bit higher than the Edmonds and KBB values. Thoughts overall? Am I missing something? Will finance $10k at 3.9% through the dealer most likely.

Would they do the deal for the same price on the truck if you weren't trading them the TSX and is the Taco a 4 or a 6?

It's a 4. That's a good question on the trade-in, though I will say it does seem like a fair trade-in offer based on research. But definitely worth calling to ask, to see how they really feel about that sale price in a vacuum

I think the trade in value is a bit low on the Acura. I had a manual 2003 CL with 122K on it that I sold privately for more than they are giving you for your 08 TSX and by 08 the auto tranny probs that Acura had in the early 2000s were fixed. From my research when I bought my truck last month the truck price sounds pretty good but for the extra $the SR5 package is not as good of a value as the SR with the sx upgrade I don't think, but the SR5 definitely gives you more stuff. ( As a side note, you might see what the price difference would be if you went with the SR +Sx and convenience package instead of sr5 though and then just upgraded a couple things like the intermittent wipers. ) Anyway, the big issue I think comes down to whether or not you want to play around selling the TSX which seems like it should be around 7 to 8 K . again all imho. Hope that helps and good luck with whatever you do!

Curious, what does the $1,096 in ‘Options*’ include?

Thanks for the replies! Might try to get another $1k or so on the trade in. Here's the spec sheet with the "options"

    It's complicated.
Having just bought a new truck, and for a very good price, here is my advice:

    1. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO BUY! You must know the exact vehicle & configuration/specs. of what you are going to buy--accept nothing more or less.
    2. Research that exact vehicle configuration, go to: nada.com, edmunds.com, kbb.com and study the numbers so that when you see a dollar figure, you know precisely what feature/package/config. you're being shown.
    3. 95% of your research is to be done online, away from the lot--there is no reason to visit a car lot, until you are ready to buy. The caveat is, if you need to get an idea of the color, then visit the car lot at least an hour after they've closed.
    4. You should be contacting many dealers within a reasonable driving distance from your area; that's where you build your knowledge of what is available, where, and how long the vehicle has been for sale, etc.
    5. Always get the VIN number(s) for the vehicles, then cross-reference them online; you're looking to see if it's been moved from dealership to dealership--if it has, there may be a something wrong with it... You're also verifying that it's spec'd out exactly how you want it. Don't be surprised when they withhold the VIN--they know you need that to comparison shop.
    6. As you research, and learn more about the vehicle, you will see that the sales people know VERY LITTLE about what they're selling--and will often make up details that simply aren't true (either inadvertently or intentionally.)
    7. The only negotiation you should have with the dealer is the price of the vehicle; not the monthly payments, not the down payment, not the financing. Get your financing elsewhere (but hint that you may want to finance there.) Sell your car elsewhere. Deal ONLY on the price of the vehicle.
    8. ALWAYS BE READY, WILLING, AND ABLE TO WALK AWAY AT ANY MOMENT.

Oh, and if the sales person comes out with the "4 square" --walk out immediately. That is a tool used to confuse, obfuscate, waste your time, and get you out of your "logical mind" and into your "emotional mind." Don't fall for it.

Ahh, the infamous 4-square form. Run away, don’t walk!!!

Another tip: Time your purchase on the last day of the month about 1-hour before they close up shop. They will be hungry for another sale AND you should fly through the paperwork because all of the employees want to home for the evening.
