Recently installed 6112's (2nd from highest setting) and 5160s on my 14 Pre-runner. Not carrying any weight.

The lift in the front game me ~3" and major bro-lean...so I added a 2" block to even it out.

That said the ride is a little rough, but considering options for better ride quality.... does it go in this order?

Block, 3-leaf aal, single leaf aal, Deaver J66, Dakar md, Dakar hd/U402 stage 1

Thoughts? Thinking of the Deaver Stage 1, but I am not carrying extra weight...will that be too stiff?

I have the Toyotec progressive AAL (3 leaf) and it rides super smooth , I have a topper and probably got 2.5 lift . Paired with bilstien 5100’s rides much better then stock and doesn’t bounce over bumps on the highway like stock did with my topper

I have almost your same setup - TRD Pro suspension (6112/5160) on 15 OR, no weight in the rear and I netted about 3" in the front. I bought the Dakar HD leaf kit and pulled a leaf to make it the medium duty. I'll hopefully have it installed in the next week and will let you know my thoughts

As for ride stiffness, I believe the blocks maintain the stock rear stiffness and get stiffer as you listed. I run the Headstrong progressive 3 leaf and it's a bit stiffer than stock.

@mikalcarbine let me know how it goes.

@Musubi3 - because the blocks are the least stiff and least impact to ride quality, that’s what I started with blocks/and they are cheap to try out.

Just looking to see what helps with ride quality... I got about 3” in the front from the 6112’s second from highest setting.

www.nationalspringinc.com, over 150 years in the business and Airbags. Good luck. I have a similar setup and love the ride. Good luck.

If I remember correctly, there were people adjusting the ride heights in the 5100 shocks and, unless you're at the lowest setting, the ride got harsher as you lifted the front. I'm suspecting this is similar with the 6112's. You may want to look into taller coils to lift the front vs adjusting the seat on the shocks. I went with OME 885's as they didn't have a much higher spring rate vs stock.

Curious about this as well. Have a TRD Pro kit I have been sitting on and I am considering adding 3 leaf AAL to level out the rear once installed. Run empty 99% of time. Stock feels a bit stiff in the rear unloaded and not looking to aggravate that any.

Also curious, have a Baja kit that I'm going to install soon. Still trying to come up with a solution for the rear so I don't have the bro lean. interested in your results @mikalcarbine!

My suggestion is since your truck is 13yo, replace the rear with a full pack. Your original pack is likely worn and sagging. Putting blocks on them is a big no no and will wear them out rather quickly. Go with a full pack and maybe drop the front down a notch and your ride quality will be vastly improved.

Factory leaf pack, overload removed, with 3 leaf AAL is going to give you the best ride.

I run a single AAL that I sourced breaking down an s10 leaf pack- I kept the overload as i do tow and want that to be there when I need it. Ride has been very good I think that is due to using a longer spring as AAL. If your always empty you might find that the shock selection is going to be a factor- a stiffer/larger piston shock might just do that to the ride. I have "over shocked" the rear suspension and it will make it harsh. Harder to do on the front because of the drive train weight but definitely on a empty bed might want to consider keeping that end of the truck softer on the shock.

Thanks guys. This is third Taco, it’s a 2014. Need to update my profile.

Maybe I over shocked the rear...

I know it sounds backwards but I switched from a Fox 2.0 to a Rancho 9000XL in the rear. On road it is much smoother on setting #2 and in the rough stuff it feels like the Fox 2.0 so Im a happy camper.

Real late update - Installed my MD dakars on my TRD Pro setup and I hate them, when the bed is empty it's like I'm driving a wooden wagon. Looking at Deaver J66 or U402 at this point
