You should probably do some of your own research before making assumptions and bashing a vendor in his own thread. Not trying to white knight, but you’re acting like a dick.

 

We have been working on a 4.88 tune (which will be released with 2.0).. we work on more than 1 thing at once.

 

Ok. Fair. Good to know he makes the snails and blowers. Makes sense he makes a tube for them in that case. I would guess more people have re-geared 3rd gens than have turbo 3rd gens. It’s more common than you think and literally everyone would do it if they could test drive a re-geared one. Should have come from the factory with 4.88, and anyone adding weight and/ or large tires should go 5.29.

Most importantly, I made assumptions in my original post and it had negative undertones and I’m sorry for that. I can own it. Looking forward to the tune for 4.88!!!

 

Technically you are correct.
Other than OVTune's trucks (3?), there are no other turbo/supercharged 3rd gens on the market.

Since FI is not possible without this tune.
OVTune will be first in creating the one and only 3rd gen FI market.

 

regearing is out of order if the motor is running well under its reliable power output level as demonstrated by the 2GR-FKS in other applications. re-tune the motor and optimize the engine hardware we have, and most will not need to consider regearing. yes regearing is great but the motor is tunable and enough for most. $700 vs. $2k+. and then mileage etc...

 

Not sure how tuning would effect re-gearing and vice versa (maybe my own ignorance plus I drive a 6spd MT) . I see them as distinct separate issues that can help drivability. Tuning optimizes engine performance & efficiency which is independent of the gears. Tuning is dynamic and highly variable with engine speed, temp, fuel, ignition timing, etc. Re-gearing essentially increases torque while decreasing wheel speed (acceleration) but is constant and not related to how the engines runs. I guess if you dramatically increase HP & torque with a tune then re-gearing might not be necessary but if your truck is too heavy with larger diameter tires then lower gears will likely always be needed to drive the truck effectively and efficiently. (Example is trying to take off from a stop in 4th gear of a 500 HP car... can be done but acceleration is compromised because of poor gear ratio). I do agree that both OVTune and 4.88/5.29 gears can significantly improve drivability of these trucks but don't see how they are directly related.

Intercooler Looks like RIPP superchargers. If it is, most likely Centrifugal type of setup.

 

He did say “it will be tucked down in here”, so must be centrifugal since a root style only goes one place.

+100hp to the wheels sounds great. Raptor-like power in a smaller truck = winning!

Edit: I’m more interested in what RIPP’s tuning solution will be since we know OVTune’s tuning is proven and takes care of the trans.

 

If it's anything like the other superchargers on RIPPs website, it's vortech style centrifugal.
Like a Rotrex.
