i had the truck rear end jacked up. I was in two wheel mode. When I rotated the drive shaft only the passenger wheel spun. Is this normal?
Also, any advice on compressing rear drive shaft propeller would be great or whatever I need to do to get it to give me some wiggle room to get it down. I removed the center bearing to drop it down a little, but all that did was cause it to lengthen. I pound it with a rubber mallet, tried to get a pry bar between the flanges & used a screw driver to try to compress it. There is not much that fits in between the yoke & the dif. I read somewhere on here that the flange has a lip on it so it can only either be compressed or has to be dropped in a certain position. I think it was that it can’t go side to side. But my brain tilted cuz side to side from what starting position? U joint up & down or sideways? Should I make this a different thread? (she asks afterwards).

Yeah, that’s what an open differential is.

Thank you. I was helping someone purge a new transmission last week (4x4) & both tires were rotating, so it got me to wondering....

Are you talking about slipping the slip yoke off the rear diff? Timmy the Toolman made a video a while back (and a subsequent follow-up cleverly called #2) that shows him doing what I think you wish to do:

    Hope that helps
