Yeah I don't use if there are stop signs or lights ahead. These systems work really well, but when there are cars possibly sitting in the road at a stop, it leads to some very uncomfortable braking. On the open highway though it is a beautiful feature!

I have been driving for 55 years and have NEVER used cruise control in the city, highway only. I think that the radar allows use of the system in light highway traffic, where as with non radar in light traffic it ends up with too much driver braking that shuts off the cc.

I think it just is a matter of one's driving habits. In my town, with the exception of only a couple of streets, the speed limit is 25mph. It is just hard to go 25, so I usually set my cruise control to around 28, and cruise around town. This is pretty much impossible using the captive cruise control [so-called, dynamic cruise control, as Toyota refers to it as]. I agree with you and others, at least until I try it, that the radar cruise control might be ok on the open highway, but for me, it sucks around town!

Of the dozen or so vehicles that I have owned, only one was an A/T and only one of the M/Ts, the Taco, doesn't turn off the cc when the clutch peddle is depressed. Using cc in the city with a M/T is a pain and takes the fun (and one of the main reasons for driving a M/T) out of having a M/T.

So yeah, driving style does make a difference in how the cc is used
