Did the same thing with my rear diff drain plug once, luckily I caught it when I noticed a fresh oil stain in my parking spot at work the next day.

Glad it wasn't worse, I was thinking thrown rod too by the description.

I have this on both my cars (well, fumoto but same exact thing). It’s amazing and makes oil changes so easy. It’s very well designed and there’s no reason to fear it coming undone, but if you were, it’d be easy enough to use a sacrificial zip tie each time to lock it closed.

Eh, Im not that trustworthy. Ball valves can and do fail, I see it at work somewhat frequently. So I see those things as putting a potential failure point on your truck. Im not skeered of getting a little oil on my hand during an oil change either. Imo, drain plugs are pretty failsafe.

I didn't look at what gen until the towing comment. I was going to say 2nd gen but took a double take on the pic and saw it was a 1st gen. That's the best part is nobody gave a rats ass what gen it was... it was just help a fellow taco owner.

Fumoto also sells a $4 clip to do the same thing. Eventually I might order it, I still use zip ties to keep mine secured.
