Hey guys. You're the pros here. I'm currently in a 2014 Nissan 4x4 SL. I tow fairly regularly, a 6x14 enclosed v nose, total weight aprrox. 3000lbs, a couple of jetskis, total weight approx. 2500lbs. and a couple of 4 wheelers, maybe 2500lbs. total. So, long story short, I'm sick of driving these land yachts. I've got my eye on a couple of 17 tacos. Trd's and one cement colour Pro. Do any of you tow regularly? Pro vs other models for towing? I only tow the skis/4 wheelers for a distance (200 miles). The work trailer is usually short distances. And there's no hills here. Any input would be awesome.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Buy a fullsize. The Tacoma tows anything above a weekend utility trailer to the dump like shit!

Hmmm. I've got this full size. Not impressed. It can pull, but not nicely. Never finds the right gear. It's only happy once you're up to speed. I've had 2 tundras. 07 towed nice, but it was a fuel pig like this thing. Thought a Taco pulling occasionally , I might balance fuel a bit better.

If I was towing semi-regularly, I would get an F-150 with the 2.7 EcoBoost (with tow pkg). Good fuel mileage when not towing (almost as good as the Tacoma), and plenty of power for towing when you want.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Well that's going to be your trade off. There's no magic in physics to have good towing power and good fuel mileage.

If you're towing something of that size on a regular basis I'd look elsewhere. F-150 or Silverado.

I tow a bass tracker with mine and that's about the tip of the limit for me.

Fuel economy is for cars. Trucks are bought for the far end of the expected haul, not the average. You'll do yourself in by buying like that.

I haul my boat over 350 miles every summer. It Handles it great. I wouldn't worry about the skis or 4 wheelers. The enclosed trailer on short hauls would be no problem. On a long trip it will depend on your skill and comfort due to side loads. But the truck can take it. Just a driver that can. Just expect a very noticeable dip in gas milage with anything behind you.

Your mileage is gonna drop anyway when you tow with the taco. I’d stick with a Tundra.

Edited to add, when I had a boat I towed with my Tundra. I no longer have either and drive a taco. Yes the mileage is better than the Tundra but not by a whole lot.

I'm not convinced on the ecoboost. I've heard some horror stories about those engines. Just really tired of driving a full size anymore. I do a lot of running around, estimating in my truck. These things are pigs. I don't need the biggest, tallest truck out there, I just need capable. This Nissan is nowhere near the quality of my two past Toyotas. But I average about 12mpg towing, everyday driving. Brutal.

I get about 14-16 towing. 17-19 daily. You're not going to be much better off in the fuel department.

Sounds like you’re looking for a reason. No need for justification. If you want one get it...

I think my Titan is rated at 17/24. I've seen 17 once. It's pretty much stuck on 13. It's a pig. And I have a light foot.

Yes, yes I am. LOL. Dealer in town is going to let me hook up my work trailer on Tuesday. It's a 2017 crew trd long box. Not interested in it being white. But, it'll be a good test. I'll know in 5 minutes if it's worth. God willing, it will be. They are the best looking truck on the road by far.

Wrong truck, sorry. I would strongly suggest a full sized as well.

I agree with some of the above post regarding getting a full size. Looking to get a little weekend trailer and I am limited with what I can get with the Tacoma.

I love my truck but for nearly the same MPG i think I would go with a tundra

I plan on getting my trailer weighed. Just so I know exactly what it is with tools. I think I'm way over-estimating at 3000. It's dry weight is only about 1300. I don't pull far enough or heavy enough loads to justify another Tundra. It was beautiful, but a pig as well. Maybe I should hold out for Tesla pickup? LOL

I see you have 2 Tacoma's. Which do you pull the boat with?
