CSF All Aluminum Performance Radiator For our trucks FINALLY!!!

I need all the cooling I can get! The motor has actually been staying very cool with the fj version. But I figure I may as well get the bigger one in there for maximum cooling.

Now hold on there fellas, the name of the game is surface area. The question that needs to be asked, is if there 2 row has more surface area. Many times, more rows don't mean more surface area. The additional core section, make me think that it *Could* have more surface area to two tubes versus one, but you need the details.

Here's an example of what I'm talking bout:



In the old days of copper and brass radiators this was true. More rows meant more surface area in contact with the fin and consequently a higher heat rejection. So a 3 row was better than a two row and so on.

When aluminum radiators came around the rules changed. Cooling engineers concluded that by lowering the fin height you could stack more layers of tubes. In addition, using wider tubes would increase the tube-to-fin contact area. The end result was a very high performance radiator with a huge savings in weight.




The U.S. standard for performance aluminum radiator tubes is a 1.0" wide tube and imported radiators have smaller 16mm (.62") tubes. In this case a 3-Row aluminum radiator would only have a total of 1.86" of tube-to-fin contact surface which is less than the two row core with 1" tubes. The online ads for these 3-Row aluminum radiators will indicate several features of the radiator design but they avoid the issue of the tube width. DeWitts radiator goes another step and offers a two row core with 1.25" tubes or (2.5") tube-to-fin contact and this would again exceed the performance of a 4-row imported core design. So, if you are researching your next purchase ask about the tube width. That will tell you a lot about the heat rejection and the origin of the product.

 

Man this radiator looks awesome, with dual fans, lower temp thermostat and full heat shield wrap on the pipes should be a massive difference, especially since my country averages 105-115F+ Degrees.

Will this radiator fit on a 3RD Gen Tacoma with a 3.5L V6? I really hope it does did not find any other options.

 

I did, bolted right up with new 2.7 rubber mount things

My mount hole looked like this but rubber squeezed right in so I didn't sweat it

They are very similar, but not sure if the mounting locations are the same, nor if the fan shrouds are the same.

First lists it as Out of Stock. The second says to call for availability. The last says that it's in stock and drop ships from CSF.

 

The 7082 was just released this week so it's not surprising that the shops haven't caught up just yet.

 

Think it will ever get below 400$? If it does

 

I'm going to tackle the install Wednesday when I'm off work. You guys taking the fan off to install this or wiggling it around it? Is it just those four bolts holding the fan on or does the pulley have to come off?

 

I took fan off. Not that bad. But then I also did my water pump and a few pulleys while I was mucking around in there

 

I took mine off too. I pulled the fan and fan shroud out together in one shot. Better clearance for installing and figured it was a good time to replace the belt.

 

waiting to see if anyone has july 4th deals on these. IF I could get the tacoma specific one for a few bucks off, I would pull the trigger

Ordered mine 3 days ago. Don't have the rad yet, but its on the list for the future.

Had that not enough cooling plus it doesn’t cover the whole radiator.

 

Why would anyone not just buy the Toyota parts? It all works together. Quit trying to be a cheap ass and buy the FJ radiator and all the required parts. Done. Mine works perfect.

 

Good advice, though I'd go with the new Tacoma Radiator - CSF #7082.

 

Only upgrade I’d like to add at some point would be electric fans.

 

If there was a SPAL kit with controller....
