Removed, wire brushed, primed, painted, clear coated and new stainless hardware installed with blue Loctite.

 

that looks badass! ... did you remove with a screwdriver or impact tool
i have not yet determined about the hardware and what to do

 

This is what I used: M8 x 1.25 x 20mm. I had the spray paints and wire brush, so the total cost of the project was $7.

I may go with security bolts (that require the hole in the allen key/wrench); don't want my rope hooks getting stolen

Agree..but you can't say you didn't run out and check your rope hooks.

 

I don't use mine. The OEM ones are inconveniently placed.
