I'd be the opposite... that would be the main reason I would want it. To help offset the additional weight you have and I believe there is an option to tune for gears too. As far as spinning and being a bit jerky at first, you get used to it after a few days. It definitely makes a big difference though... My truck (albeit considerably less weight than yours) definitely downshifts less on the interstate now at speeds above 70 even between my house and yours where my truck would constantly downshift back to 4th, sometimes even 3rd, to get over the hills. Acceleration is drastically improved too. Again, steep at $700 but worth it, IMO.

I respect that. One huge mitigating factor is that most people who bought OVtune are using a “throw-away” $150 laptop dedicated solely for the tune and nothing else and will only be connected to the internet once. I understand there are other risks like the code killing your truck down the road at a pre-specified time etc.

I didn’t want to say something but since you did I’m going to agree with you haha. People are saying they aren’t having issues with it...that’s kind of the point. People won’t have issues until they do. And when they do their computer, and possibly their truck will be fucked. Or possibly a DDOS type attack? I don’t deal with cyber stuff like you do so I could be off but it sounds like there are now a lot of unknowns.

$700 is cheap for the hardware to read/write and multiple tune files.

For my WRX, the hardware to read/write to the ECU is $650 with no tune files. Off the shelf tunes run $75-150, I think. I haven't looked into them because everything I read says they're garbage. Custom e-tunes (were you send logs to the tuner and they send you back adjusted tune files) is around $300, but the cost varies based on the tuner. Custom dyno tunes are around $600 plus the dyno time if the tuner isn't affiliated with the dyno shop.

Yea, I was used to paying about $300-500 for tunes on previous vehicles doing the e-tunes. I still think $700 is a bit steep but it is good that any and all updates are available as they come out.

I think I paid around that for my Cobb tune on my Hawkeye about ten years ago. Then I got the mod bug much to the dismay of my wife and took it full stage 2. Such a fun little car.

Maybe. Maybe not. As an IT professional, I can assure you that APT's (Advanced Persistent Threats) come in some of the most surprising places. And people tend to think of malware as something that affects your PC. Most APTs simply sit there and watch what you do waiting for some sensitive info to pass, and then send it via Command and Control to some nefarious location. APTs are not designed to work act or function like a virus, and are very hard to detect. Furthermore the OP on that thread is using VERY reliable resources for analysis.

If they used a Russian developer, I would not be at all surprised if it contained malware.

I hear you. For me personally, I’m willing to take the risk because I wasnt happy with the stock drivetrain and was considering a new vehicle all together. The computer i used to download the tune has no other information stored on it. It has been connected to the internet once for 10 minutes. If the malware is to brick my truck at some pre-specifies time, then they got me.

I seriously doubt that would be anyone's goal. And I completely agree about the functionality. But I found that the Shift Sense Pro (https://www.dz-custom-innovations.com/products/shiftsense-pro) solved the performance issues for me.

I'm looking to get back into bow hunting, used to hunt AP Hill with my dad long time back, but never got into bow. Now my wife picked up a recurve for sport and I'm intrigued to get back to it.

Have access to 72 acres in Nelson County VA (40 min south of Charlottesville), but haven't hunted it, so not sure what kind of action you'd get down there.

Messing around with the wife's recurve in the back yard, 20# draw just for shiggles, but giving me the itch!

Did the two of you get the TSB reflash for the transmission done?

I did not because of the timing of when I tuned and when the TSB came out

Looking into it, a different model # for the 2Gen but need to dig into specifics. Would prefer to eventually put something like a prinsu up there, but this could be a interim solution (for functionality) as long as it doesn't require any modification to fit.

The wife's grandad grew up down on the property, but the homestead was wiped out by Hurricane Camile. We have a little cabin with bunks, outhouse and then clear the downhill for a firing range. View from the range toward the cabin and from the cabin back toward the road in.

We have had a few deer and bear on the game camera, but the bear is not for the taking (Grandaddy has a soft spot for him).

I was just going off the fact that Prinsu lists theirs as fitting 2005-2016. They both bolt into the roof in pre-threaded holes, so...
