To an extent worst thing you can do.

Trick is enter fast enough to create a wave in front of you then keep the speed consistent to ride that bow all the way through.

To slow and you fall behind it, too fast and you're moving past it. Both are where water getting into the engine bay etc.

I've gone through roughly 36" of water if not deeper, right under the snorkel on the fender. When Minden was really wet.

Got through and checked engine bay and it was dry.
Many, including an annoying Russian cunt, seem to think a snorkel is pointless because other parts aren't water tight like fuse box etc
But that differential pressure and riding the bow is what keeps water out as long as your speed is right and you don't stop.
Problem is the normal intake is in the fender so even if you don't hydrolock you could still stall. Then you're fucked.

I've even messaged Henry (from fire to fork) who goes with Ronny Dahl and one of the guys from 4wd action when they posted water crossings. Was wondering what they actually do and they both said the same. It's not water tight but as long as you don't stop you're good

This is exactly the advice I love to hear.
So the objective is not to bomb it through the water, as i had originally thought, but there is sense to push the water first by going fast enough and then matching the speed of the initial wave through and ride within the trough, all while trying not to fall in it's wake or in it's path.

I'm aware stalling/ sitting in the water isn't good in anyway (as in if the ground is soft, you'll sink in and the tires will spin and the term "dead in the water" comes to mind), but i'm glad to at least hear that me keeping on the gas, albeit a little too much gas, and trying to maintain a steady speed through the water was more or less what i had to do, learn through experience right? :D

also with that said, i'll need to find more of the water crossing vids from 4WD Action :spy: those guys have awesome videos

in regards of the snorkel, ahhh that makes sense in their function. Not just as a breather but also as a pressure relief, Interesting to learn that! Hopefully I won't find myself doing deeper water crossings any time soon but it is something to take into consideration if i do start doing more water-related off roading. Cheers!

A few months ago I posted some pics of a taco I found in the cnd tire parking lot, BDS lift with fox underside goodness.

I found him out on the trails! Using that 6" BDS lift and no skids. :anonymous:

He was with the local off road group, that I just dont get along with:frusty:

I was wheeling with my buddies and we came across them on the trails.

Whats the catch? Lol. Id have to pay my $500 deductible no matter what but I can submit a claim with the city to recoup that back. The city will then tell me they serviced the tree within a certain time and that covers their ass so im s.o.l

It's been awhile, but check your policy...act of god claims usually have/had a lower deductible.

I usually have mine in 4lo in s mode with it set to 2nd gear. I find I just go a little more than an idle into it maybe 8-10km and then keep that.

The idea is be in 2nd because if you need the power you don't need to change. It's also more so for manual as you shouldn't be clutching in while in water.

Yes to go along with Joe's sweet knowledge.

You never want to do any shifting or changing of anything while in water. You want to be in the correct 4x4 mode (4lo) before the water. As well as the correct gear (2nd as Joe said) and locker :headbang: already engaged.

Turning anything on and off in the water is no buenos.

It’s bad, but expected, never leave your vehicle out wild without supervision. It will be trashed when you get back. Always have somebody to stay nearby and if you are alone, just accept the chances that it’ll be trashed when you get back.

if it comes to a point where police has to go all the way to a beach, you are doing something wrong.

Ardberg always been like that, it never changed. You just haven’t noticed it.
