I am seriously tossing around the idea of buying 2-3 acres for 15k-20k. Having a heavybuilt single wide modular(not a mobile) house with a 30x30 garage built and put on it and having a mortage for only 90k. This would allow us to travel and go do more things way more often. Im working all this OT and im paying bills with very little left afterwards. I want the finacial freedom to travel or go do something 2-3 weekends a month and take extended trips 4-6 times a year. My wife is down for the idea as well. We can always upgrade and build a nicer house on the land down the road as well.

There are no houses for sale in my area and it really sucks

build a shop first and make the doors big enough to pull a camper in, lots of people do that around here till they save up enough to build the house.

You should look at land in Huntsville if you think that’s high.

Prime land down in my area is usually around 1.5k to 2k an acre. I guess it must be another geographical thing. Huntsville's a place where everybody wants to go live I guess! lol

It does, neiher of us want more than 1200sqft. We have so much we want to see and do with the kids, a house is a place to rest your head and cook meals. The places where memories are made are outside the house more than in it. So why spend so much on a house when we are outside more than in. Summer time is really the only time we stay inside more often. All other times we are outside. We want to be able to travel and show our kids the world and make those memories before they are grown and making their own.

can confirm, @cubie area is nice for close to the lake, but I'm unsure how far you'd have to drive to go anywhere for work.

Just found 3.6 for 18k with all utilities already on the property. That would be perfect.

Land costs have skyrocketed since benz started building 3 new plants in my area. 5 years ago it was 1k an acre now its 7k an acre roughly

Yeah, that will usually raise the costs a bit! There's nothing in Southside. Houses are cheap, land is cheap, I'm about 300 yards from the Coosa River and it's a smaller community. I would rather buy the cheaper land and commute to work. Hell, I've been commuting at least 70-120 miles round trip for the last 10 years. I just know I don't want to live in a big city with big city traffic, my road rage would get the best of me.

What's wrong with living in a trailer? My fondest childhood memories were from growing up in a mobile home!

Skid plates? Are they all pretty much the same protection-wise? I'm down for any recommendations!
