Agreed. I could build a twin to that for a third of the cost. The steel and aluminum tarrifs jacked material costs a ton but $2k is crazy for that.

Looks like there is a lot of time and labor in that. Especially if you have to pay someone to do it. I’d say it might be a little expensive but not crazy high.

I don't think the new tarrifs are what's affecting the cost, those are fairly new. I suspect the seller is factoring some sort of build time/cost factor, that is not realistic. My take on this is, if I built it, it would take say 16 hours at $50/ hour = $800. add in another $800 for build materials aluminum or even SS stock and mounting hardware, add another $300 for expandable materials, welding wire, gas, etc.. That brings the total to $1,900 cost out of pocket, and $900 saved.

However, the rack is used (I don't care if it was on a truck for 1 day, a year, or more), cost goes down 40% minimum if "new condition". So top price should be somewhere between $1,100-1,200. Finally, you can find just as nice racks for even less. Still, can't blame seller for trying, he/she might actually find a sucker who doesn't mind the price.

Agreed and I’m not running a business so my Overhead is null. Then again most guys on Craigslist aren’t running a business either. Probably $500 in material (being real generous) 30 minutes with a mandrel bender, 2 or 3 hours notching and deburring, a few hours of gussets and weldout. You’re right, not crazy high asking price but who knows what that person paid for it new.

I know what the cost of raw materials jumped to near me after the tarrifs (especially aluminum) and I’m glad I sold off my mobile welding business that I ran on the side. Majority of my personal projects or the occasional TIG jobs I pick up for friends or past customers can be completed with “drops” from my local supply yard for per-pound rates. Anyone claiming material cost isnt a factor is either fibbing or not buying much material.

Eh. I mean compared to other options that are popular, I don’t think it’s that crazy. For a full prinsu can rack and top rack you’re looking at about $1200. And there’s not nearly as much labor in those and it’s only 1/2 aluminum. CBI aluminum bed rack is $1200 but only covers the bed.

Shot in the dark here - anyone have a 10x1.25 130mm bolt meant for 3.4 supercharger mounting kit? Magnuson sent the wrong one and my truck is ripped apart! Located in Western MA. I understand it's a CL thread
