I see it says it has am/fm. Do you know if it has the ability to play XM radio? I guess I could download the app correct?

 

Correct, via the app. It does not have xm tuner.

 

Sorry, a few more questions. It looks like regular android apps work just fine on it -- can you load google music/pandora/etc and have it work well? I assume the center info part of the dash no longer works, correct?

Yes it works like a regular tablet, as long you tether with your phone all app will work. I am not sure if the next/prev will work with the steering controls, but the app should work. I use Pandora, TuneIn, Amazon Music and Google Music via Head Unit Reloaded (Android Auto) third party app.

As you correctly mention you will loose the radio and gps information on the center console. In the other hand you will win a 9" screen were you can use waze ,google maps or split screen to accommodate maps and music.

I have some of questions if you wouldn't mind answering them.
1: How is the audio quality compared to the stock head unit? I don't want to add an amp and rewire the entire audio system, but I have already replaced the tweeters and plan on upgrading the door speakers. Does this sound much better than the factory system based on the amplifier in the head unit?
2: I know you were very specific on connecting an iPod AND your phone. I have an old iPod classic that I connect to the stock USB port. Will this still work with the factory position, or do I need to wire it to one of the USB ports at the back of the unit? As far as the phone, I've never used Android Auto, and feel comfortable as long as the phone will still work as advertised connected via bluetooth.
3: Did you ever figure out how to properly map the skip track button on the left of the steering wheel? I feel like needing to be on the music screen in the center cluster in order to skip tracks is a big deal breaker for me.
4: Were you able to figure out how to change the settings to permanently read Fahrenheit and mph instead of Celsius and kph?
5: I've read on other new units that the reverse camera clarity is noticeably decreased, is that the case with this unit?
6: Does it support HD radio and show the song information?
7: Is this completely plug and play (minus splicing the reverse trigger wire) Or does it need a Maestro iData link?

Just trying to make an informed decision and decide between one of these tablets or a Kenwood/Pioneer/Sony, etc. setup. Thank you for any information!

I will try to answer direct to the point.
1. Yes it does sound better. Prior to the head unit I did the Polk/Kicker upgrade discussed in the forums. It helped the stock radio. Now with the new radio they deliver a better punch. The unit has a DSP/equalizer that really works. No external amplifier used.

2. The unit includes a cable that allows the unit USB to be plugged on the stock position. Looks like this PAC USB-TOY1. No splicing whatsoever. In addition you have 2 more UBS ports.
-IPOD: I tested a 2004 IPOD circa 2004 and the unit handle it like a pen drive. It just plays the mp3 files by filename(as you may know random names no actual song names). I was able to control prev/next with the steering wheel . Maybe with a newer version of the IPOD or using other media player it will behave differently, but I don't really know.
-Bluetooth: It is really basic, but get the job done. You can dial and answer phone calls and stream via Bluetooth.
3. They work with applications included with the head unit, radio, media player, Bluetooth and CarPlay.
4. No, the head unit includes an app called CarInfo that is aimed to show you the fuel consumption, speed(MPH), TPMS and this works. On another tab has a summary that is hard coded in kilometer even though is reading the information it displays it incorrectly. As for the temperature it seem to be trying to read from the canbus I guess and it cant read it and always reads 65C. Anyway the temperature is shown on the instrument cluster.
5. Camera: No I have not. FYI it has a menu when you put the car in reverse that allows you to adjust brightness, color and contrast.
6. No it does not(not mentioned on the specs, maybe ask the seller). It just support RDS.
7. Yes completely plug and play(minus splicing the reverse trigger wire). I comes with Canbus that is the equivalent of the iData link, you don need any other part everything is the box.

Thank you for the information! I do request some more clarification on question 2 though. When I plug in my iPod to the USB port, it displays the song title, artist, and album cover image. Are you saying that with this head unit it removes these functions with an iPod? I want to say my iPod is from circa 2009 or 2010, but I can't imagine it being that big of a difference from a 2004 iPod.

I guess the short answer is Android does not support Ipod's.

-Options:
1.Install poweramp and scan the ipod, you will have to recreate your playlists on the app. Poweramp will get album art and all the shenanigans for you(What I did).

2.Copy the music to a usb.

3.Use your favorite music service to create your playlists.

4. Maybe it's time to let go.

I was wondering, where did you end up placing the wifi antenna?

I was thinking of hiding it within the HU enclosure above the HU but not sure if signal will be heavily affected by this, my guess is, it shouldn't.

Well it's working great so far!

The only things I am trying to figure out before I put it all back together is the steering wheel controls, the setup says to hold the steering wheel button for a while, then select it from the ones shown? Nothing is happening though.

I was also hoping that we would be able to use gps without having a 4g/wifi connection but google maps doesn't work and there is no built in map app that uses the gps antenna, any info on this?

 

Steering: Did it came with the Canbus? If yes make sure this plug is connected. Have you set the canbus type? Can you control the volume?


GPS: You have to download it from the Play store and download the maps for offline use.
