I just took my '17 offroad to the dealership this morning after noticing this same issue. The mechanic swore up and down I did not have a leak and that the discoloration was from extra grease they apply when assembling the rear diff. According to him, if you run your finger over it and it's dry with no dirt build-up then it's fine. I might still get a second opinion though.20190707_205547.jpg

gear oil seeping for sure, if they are using a Full synthetic those oil types will find leaks more often easier than a Dino type oil

I have the ARB diff breather kit and I noticed diff oil seeping. Does the ARB diff breather kit void Toyota warranty given the situation? TIA.

I remember hearing a lot about this . I have 81k miles and I keep looking but nothing yet . I'm out of warranty though so I would just keep an eye on it .

It really shouldn't but as soon as they notice it they will use it against you & most likely not honor warranty work for this issue

Just took my 2018 Sport MT in and pointed out the leak/seep from the diff. No questions asked, new seal and bolts same day. I would say if your dealer gives you grief try a new dealer. The seal is red and much thicker than what was on stock. Looks like it should hold up. Time will tell.

The only time I tried to not warranty something out was a car that the oil had never been changed at 25k miles and it needed a turbo, which was not warrantied, and a rear wiper motor where the customer had put a bike rack on the back window binding the wiper arm up, which I was overruled on by the service manager. I wouldn't have cared about a vent kit.

Anyone have a successful trip to the dealership where they actually fixed this? I am now on my third trip to the dealership with the same leak, and only 5K miles in after they "addressed" the problem with a new seal. At what point does lemon law come into play?

I would change up dealers. My dealer changed the seal and put in new bolts the same day. No questions asked.

How long ago was that? What did they torque the bolts too? What kind of seal did they install?

I’ll take a pic of the seal and post up soon. I have no idea what the torque spec was. The seal is red, and looks to be much thicker than stock. No leaks or issues since. This was 1500 miles ago.

Manufactured in Thailand. That may be the reason. Mine is 2019 made by Hino. No seepage.

Not good. I thought Toyota resolved this with the 2016/2017 recall... did they not update the production line with the fix? wtf

my rear end look the same I sprayed cleaner on it and I've driven it 6000 more miles and it has not shown any sign of leaking. I think it is something from the factory that is on there that just happens to get warm and look like it's leaking

Mine was clean at 100 miles when I first checked. When I looked again at 6k miles it has seeped everywhere.
