has anyone ditched the 7 pin and hard wired in a 4 pin? I will never tow trailer that has the 7 pin harness. I did buy the adapter today...

I dont like how it hangs down under the bumper and I dont wanna cut a hole in my bumper either...
could I just cut a few wires and solder in the 4 pin?

You can...but if you need to tow a 7 pin one day you won't be able to. Just use the adapter and remove it when you arent using it.

I use one just like this and just keep in stowed under the seat with the ball mount.

x2, don't 'dumb down' your truck if you don't need to. It's easy to go from 7 pin to 4-pin, the other way, not so much. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I should have stated that. My truck actually came with a 4 pin the previous owner put on. I removed that and added a 7 pin.

The only time I use a 7pin is when I tow my buddies 17' car trailer, Most of the time the trailers I tow use 4 flat. The adapter made it easy. I actually bought it from Uhaul a long long time ago when I rented a tow dolly to tow behind my buddy's 2500 HD duramax.

so the ones I circled are the only ones I need right?

ground, left light, right light, and brake?

that diagram is kinda confusing to me. maybe I should just relocate the stupid 7 pin...

correct. If you only want a 4-pin, you need turn signals, ground and brake.
