It's a little messier than that currently since I am in the middle of a couple huge projects but you get the gist.

What are your guys' thought on cordless angle grinders in a garage setting? I have always viewed them more for remote jobs, but that is just out of ignorance. I use grinders daily in the garage and am considering getting a cordless so I don't have constantly pull out extension / and wrap wire up when Im done using it. Specifically would be buying the makita 18v

The sad thing is I work with guys that pay full price for these boxes. One guy has almost the same thing as me and paid over double. Eeek

I have a brushless cordless one and its...ok. Nice for the quick jobs that are "remote". Battery life isnt terrible but isnt the best either. I get probably 10 minutes of actual use out of a 3AH battery when just grinding. Course thatll change depending on battery age, size, what your grinding, ect.

But for in the garage I wont be replacing the corded ones. Especially if you have multiple ones setup for different operations (flap disc, cutting wheel, ect). Seems like whenever I grab the cordless one first thing I have to do is swap the disc to what i need.

My collections stems from 3 generations of iron workers, mill rites and mechanics. I’ve got no 1st cousins so I’ve ended up inheriting all the tools. 7 toolboxes at home full. Then my shit at work. Worst part is you can’t insure this stuff

Yeah I’m 27 and I inherited 1 toolbox from my grandad. Not many tools. Basically had to buy everything I have so far and it’s not much lol.

Dad does nothing hands on and just always pays folks to do stuff so nothing coming from him lol

@stronghammer my dad was the same way, he had some automotive tools but never used them. Used wood tools when he needed, but he was an only when he has to kind of guy with a lazy streak.

I’ve got some big purchases, but most of my tools, especially in the toolbox - are just as I need them or they’re affordable enough that I can just pop in and buy a socket set here and there.

I don’t do a lot of mechanic work, but not having tools at all makes that prohibitive even to begin, so now that I have enough to get me in trouble, I try and diagnose stuff and fix it myself if I think I can. I’m also building an old car, so some justification is there also, especially on the learning how to do shit side.

It can be fun and enjoyable, but tools and stuff in general has a nasty habit of filling (and overfilling) whatever space you give it. No garage is ever big enough, really.

There’s a lot of good deals on hand tools these days, if you ever have questions about recommendations or just good deals in general - ask away! I splurge on things at times but I also don’t spend more than my abilities can afford, and since I’m just learning, that isn’t a whole hell of a lot.

I’m 42 and spent my adult life in the military. I only bring that up because it developed a habit of not borrowing or lending tools. If I needed something I ended up just buying it. In full disclosure I have several tools that were only used for one or two projects. I also have several hand tools handed down from my dad. Growing up I never knew that people didn’t do their own car work or house projects. It’s a very blue collar state and we were def a blue collar family. Up until my 30s, when I started making better $, everything I had fit in the classic small two level craftsman. I’d be willing to bet you are right on track for your collection!

Now the guys that wrench for a living will easily put us all to shame!!

Here you go. Welcome to my chaos of 3 projects in progress, one of which I need to wrap up in 2 weeks no matter what.

When my tundras back from the body shop it should be fun... need to make reinforcement plates for the back of the frame, replace all the shocks and lift the front. Run the new rear harness, pull the dash to get rid of the god awful smoker smell.... garage is going to be a mess..

The. After all that I have to assemble the rest of my tacomas chassis so I can have the frame rolling.
