Whats everyone setup for recovery gear? Or should I cash out on some frame sliders?

Recovery gear doesn't have to be too expensive. Hi-Lift jack, shovel, traction boards, recovery strap (not a tow strap) and some shackles is a pretty basic recovery kit. If you want to do a winch bumper and winch that of course will compete with the cost of sliders.

Sliders are good to have though both for protection and for recovery, they make for a good Hi Lift jack point assuming they're well built sliders.

Do you have any recovery gear? What do you have if any? If you have a little and wheel with friends or don't wheel anything other than parks with lots of people get sliders.

My recovery gear is small but I am pretty much armored up. @The Schwartz is the one who hauls my truck off of being stuck. All jokes aside if you wheel in groups and people have winches and stuff. Just carry a few straps, d-shackles, a snatch strap and your good. That's all I have and have needed and I've been stuck pretty bad just wheel with friends.

I only have a small shovel, axe and a rear D shackles. I've done some BLM camping. On the 4th July weekend I was about 1inch and a half away from damaging my side against a big rock. luckily my friend was there to spot me.

Sliders are important and so is recovery gear. But I’d get the underbelly prepped first and a few cheap recovery options and never wheel alone! Friends, skids, self recovery gear, sliders... in that order and not a complete list!

The recover gear ain’t going to do much good if your pulling yourself off a rock that busted through the oil pan!

A skid set duo is worth it and the self recovery gear in the end doesn’t need to be high end just functional at that moment! First pick would be traction boards solo!

Don't bother with a hi-lift jack if you don't have the bumpers and sliders to use it with. I giggle when I see those brolanders with hi-lifts on display and stock bumpers and running boards. Get your bumpers and sliders first, then get a hi-lift.

Also remember that d-rings, straps, etc... don't do any good if you are traveling alone. If you travel alone a lot, get a winch, tree saver, and snatch block. Mandetory with a winch is a new bumper or at LEAST a recovery point like from a front hitch receiver (frame mounted).

Just a shovel and some nearby rocks or logs is all you really need to start out. Sprinkle in some desperation and you can do some amazing recoveries, lol.

Two ways to do it! Slow and steady or fast and furious! Go slow and steady. Take the time to make it work for you! Just make the right moves if first if your traveling alone! Know the limits!

Since I got my taco I've been to the Grand Canyon, Zion national park, Sequoia national park/forest and Kings Canyon. I've never camped so much in my life LOL. I'm planning to hit Yosemite next month!! Maybe death valley in the winter!!!! these Trips aren't cheap!!!

Yes you can and it is a bit cumbersome. You can also use a log and straps or a come-a-long all as cheap winches. If I were you I would sit down and have a serious look at what you want to do where you would want to go and slowly build up to that point but enjoy the truck as it sits now and use it where you are comfortable. It can get you to some places without a hiccup that other vehicles can't get. If I were you with a stock truck I would invest in some good tires, recovery boards, a few straps and d-shackles, solid recovery point for the rear and go from there. Research a bumper and winch combo if you plan on venturing further and further out alone and see which one best suits you needs and go with that.

You should try doing those trips coming from NC! It's even pricier. Have never been to death valley but have been to all the others you mentioned. At Sequoia a coyote walked with us on a trail he was like 20 yds off the trail just staring and walking right along it was pretty neat. Eventually he veered into the forest but followed for a good long while.
