Seems to me your argument sounds like saying why vote because its so miniscule, or why not litter, or why recycle, etc. Sure, one person not voting, or littering, or not recycling might not make much difference in the large scheme of things, yet at the same time, if everyone had that mentality then in the aggregate it would be huge. I might not be a big shot that can make huge changes in the world, but I recognize that I have a responsibility as an individual, so I try to do my part. I think it's sort of like how they say you should vote.

I can understand that believing and living your Vegan lifestyle may be a feel good virtue for you why not devote time and money to a more worthwhile cause like Wildlife Conservation, Clean Seas or the NWF that would make a more positive change for the benefit of the planet instead
of being so concerned about wearing leather shoes or having some leather trim in your truck.

While I can appreciate your devotion and adherence to your vegan lifestyle, with all the other problems we face on the planet I’m sorry but this does seem a little misplaced.

The world's problems are intersectional. Veganism isn't purely about saving the environment, just as much as saving the environment isn't going to be solved purely by not using animals. There is a lot of evidence that shows the industrialization of meat and other animal products has caused harm to the environment and to people. Furthermore, it is well known to be a resource inefficient way to produce food. It's very easy to find this information and I think that if you did, you wouldn't say vegan priorities are misplaced.

Good point Bob. Also, I would like to tell Rrowdy that you can spend volunteering time to other causes, though not sure I would term them as more worthwhile than the vegan cause. Either way, looking to buy vegan products is not that much of a time spent as to get in the way of volunteering or other activities. It's just part of being a consumer.

As Bob mentioned regarding the intersectional nature of the world's problems, which I assume means interconnectedness of issues, I think the vegan cause is very worthy in that regard, for the reson Bob mentioned. Another reason that is more psychological or philosophical, is that I think at the bottom line, many of the problems in the world are a result of predatory mentality, whether its in the business world, politics, etc. If youre worried about wildlife conservation, clean sea, corporate greed, racism, or if you were yourself personally wronged by someone, etc., much of that is rooted in people's predatory, overly selfish mentality, throughout human history its been this story of predatory vs non predatory, evil vs good. So I guess my point is, whatever your focus, much of it comes down to those differing mentalities, and the vegan movement often tend to be not comfortable with having that predatory, parasitic type of mindset or existence.

    Beware: Logic follows.

    From that very article:

"Of course every form of food production kills some animals. But if you eat animal products, you are responsible for far greater losses, because the animals are largely fed on arable crops, with much poorer conversion efficiencies than you get when you eat the crops yourself.

In other words, meat contains a lot more grain than grain does. This is why I say that if you want to eat less soya, eat soya: you consume far less of it (96% according to one analysis) if you eat it directly."

Yes, the other guy said something else. But there is perfectly sound logic in what this guy is saying that I want you to see. The point is, yes, animals die to humans for a variety of reasons. But some more than others. If the OP's goal is to kill no animals, then he should absolutely subscribe to the lifestyle that kills less.

Wait, so half ass it?!... If the OP’s goal is to kill NO animals, then he should absolutely kill NO animals, not LESS. You make it sound like it’s ok to kill animals when it’s convenient for you to do so. Hmmm. Do you cry while driving to work knowing that animals have been killed for you to do said driving?

Maybe it's a choice between a slow, horrible death from starvation for Bambi or a quick spike through the head for Bessie?
