From the introduction of the 3rd gen Taco back in 2016 till 2018, Toyota has sold 635,414 Tacos. Not including 2019s.

At 0.5% of those decided they want a $5000 kit. That's 3,177 Tacos = $15,885,000 in sales by just hitting 0.5% of the 3rd gen taco population.

And as of right now, you're the only one on the market doing FI for 3rd gen Tacos.

Raptor has 450 hp and 510 lb.-ft. of torque and weighs ~5,500lbs.

Tacoma has 278hp and 265 lb-ft of torque and weighs ~4,000lbs.

If Mat’s estimate of 100hp gain with the TT setup is correct, then it would give the Tacoma 378hp, and since I have a manual trans, it would be less powertrain loss than the Raptor AND 1000lbs lighter. Easy win for the Tacoma.

Can't wait for the official TT vs SC numbers but I am definitely in on one of the kits. Biggest factor for me (as many others I'm sure) is the size of the FMIC & fitting it with installed aftermarket bumpers/winches. Any info regarding which FMIC you'll be including with the kit?

Definitely see how the dump pipes will add torque/HP with TT set up. Downpipes in my BMW N54 and S63 TT's made a HUGE difference in gains.

So how many Cats are on these trucks? Sounds like 2, first one will remain in place and second one will be removed with turbo install? I believe in NY they just check for CEL and codes, so as long as those don't show up I should be good to go. Otherwise might have to settle for dump tubes and Dirty Deeds exhaust.

So 2 will remain in place, 2 will be removed? Any idea where the O2 sensors are located?

I just found a diagram of the exhaust system. Looks like I would be good to go without the rear cats, as long as the O2 sensors can hook into the OV piping. Definitely going to wait for the first guinea pigs to try it out though lol

Think you hit some reasonable prices on both of these options.

$5500 base including the tune is spot on in my opinion. Glad to see it came in under $6k! I really think $5k+/- is that sweet spot where OVT will sell a lot.

Show me some dyno numbers and explain why I may want to upgrade injectors, and I’m sold!

I just did some Raptor tuning research and it turns out the Raptor doesn’t make a whole lot more after tuning. Part of the reason for that is that the stock tune does octane learning, so if you use 87 it only makes about 320whp but if you use 91 it makes 370whp. After tuning these shops are only picking up about 20-45hp and 40-50lb/ft to the wheels. While these numbers are respectable, it does show that the stock Ford tune is actually pretty decent, IMO.

So if we can get 370whp and close to that in torque, that would make for an awesome package! I doubt the Taco will ever make the torque numbers that the Raptor does but that’s OK with me.

So pumped to have a few more scraps of info to hold me over for the next few days.

In terms of the reliability vs efficiency balance it would seem that modern turbos are reliable enough, with huge gains in efficiency compared to their supercharger counterparts. My biggest concern with these kits is engine longevity. I plan on taking my taco close to the 300k mile mark but if I’m going to live with it for that long, I’m going to need some more power.

Does anyone have thoughts on whether turbos or sc would be better in the long run?
