That is what I was thinking and disappointed at the same time that I didn't think of a EAF call sign 1st

    Hi folks,

Going to spend the rest of the PM trying to get the APRS setup on my Yaesu FTM400DR.

Any tips and tricks....will be running from Monument to Kenosha Pass or west of Vail this weekend and would love to get it setup.

    Tips/Tricks...apps for the iPhone?

    What haven’t I changed?
PocketPacket seemed to be the de facto APRS app on iPhone. I was able to update my position with it but it still seems limited compared to APRSDroid. There was another app that I tried but it didn’t work at all. Don’t remember what it was called.

You will also need a cable in order for the iPhone app to send and receive radio packets from the radio. I have one that works with the Baofeng HTs (separate plugs for audio/mic) but not sure what the Yaesu has for input/output.

Not sure I need that. The Yaesu can transmit/receive APRS info from the head unit. The iPhone only needs to connect to Google APRS for now if I think I have that correct

Future is to get a tablet to display APRS/maps but then I may need a cable but for now I think its good...thoughts?

Yeasu does not have a tnc you can only get the info out of the radio.

There is a manual dedicated to aprs on the manufacturers cite.

    Hi Josh,

Yeah I get that...what I think I can do is use any app that puts out APRS (granted I need Cell/Wifi connections to the internet) but then display that on any display I choose.

I have the Dedicated manual for the FTM400 and am working with it now from the truck. Thanks for the clarification of sending data straight from the radio.

Just starting with the APRS stuff so it's gonna take some time.

My goal for now is to get it setup and then run from there.

You'll probably find that the default settings for APRS transmission on the FTM-400 are way too infrequent if you want it to have any sort of accuracy for city or trail driving.

I use the APRS.fi app on iPhone but tonight it seems to be down? Just to monitor transmissions on a map. The FTM-400 takes care of all your transmitting itself, you don't need to tether any other device to it for that.

Do you have RT Systems software for programming your FTM-400? I highly recommend it.

My ftm-400 came with a program cable, and the software on yaesu's page worked pretty easily. I however, do most my programming through the SD card. Super easy.
I did set up my aprs on the radio itself, and it wasn't to difficult at all. I just followed along with a YouTube video.

Ahh so that cable does things, will check it out.

Honestly I would rather just do the programming from the head unit but will check out the computer things soon.

Thanks for showing me that, because, I had zero knowledge on it.
