Exactly, I’m sure he will explain the variations between turbos and combinations. When injectors are needed and when not etc.

How do we think the turbos will play with people who have swapped gears? Will gears still be worth it with the extra power?

Also for people who have already bought the dump tubes and tune, will there be a discount on the kits?

Yes there will be discounts for previously bought parts, that’s been covered a couple times.

Regearing won’t be as necessary to some with 33s and planning to turbo/supercharge. But if you have already or combined it just means more

@OVTune what gears do you recommend with your turbo kit and 35s? I have 5.29s ordered but might swap to 4.88 for better mpg. Thoughts?

I’m the other way around. I have 4.88’s + 35’s and was going to swap to 5.29’s. but I think once I have a bump in power it might make up for the lack of gearing and make it a good combo.

That’s what I’m thinkin. Plus I don’t have any weight and don’t plan on adding “permanent” weight.

Anybody have advice? 4.88 plus 100hp or 5.29 + 100 hp on 35s with no added weight?

As soon as my house is done and I’m settled in, I’ll be purchasing the supercharger and non catted dump tubes

Yeah I was leaning towards 5.29s with 35s
But boost+4.88s+35s is starting to look like a good balance. Even in terms of MPGs.

You guys are thinking of this all wrong

You’re looking at like 1+2+3= good
And 1+2+2.5= okay with better gas

    That’s not how it works

Gears for 5.29 are to bring the guys on 35’s and 37’s back into appropriate rpm range per the motion and force required to bring that back to “factory” displacement and rotation.

Same with 4.88 and 33’s or heavier rigs in and below the 33’s range

Your gears need to match your tire setup independently of the motors capabilities as most manufacturers intend it gearing is based on making the stock tire work most effectively with the built drivetrain

    So
    In short
Big tire + appropriate regear brings your vehicle back to normal or how it should be moving
    And then
Your SC or TT just make it all effective...

    Gravy? Cool

    @MESO this means you too

Sorry for the confusion regarding the dump tubes. Let me explain.
I built the kit 2 different ways.
One with turbo up top, and one with turbo below.
Turbo below can use dump tubes. Up top cannot.
Originally top mounted was going to be the kit..
I decided that the top mounted version is too complex and requires too much modification / moving components to be worthwhile.

So, for the price, simplicity and ease, bottom mount setup wins.
If you already ordered dump tubes then it's the price minus cost of dump tubes, as the turbo kit includes dump tubes.

Regarding spool. These turbos spool very fast. For reference the 3.5 ecoboost also uses K03s and will if my memory is right hit full boost at 1700 RPM

How will the other components of the truck handle the extra power? Tranny, engine, diffs? Any other upgrades needed?

I believe this was addressed very early on in the thread and there were no concerns with the trans or engine components up to about 500hp.

Will you be posting info between the two turbos and when adding injectors is needed?

Power increase requires fuel increase. Go past the HP flow capability of a specific injector (maxing out their duty cycle) then you need to upgrade the injectors. To stay somewhere under the industry standard of 80% duty cycle. There are a few good injector size to HP calculators online.

Sorry I should’ve been more clear in my moment of excitement. I’m familiar with “why” injectors would need to be replaced, but want to know what the power threshold is before we begin to exceed 80% duty cycle on this specific setup. I’m sure OVT has this info and will likely share it with details on the differences between turbos.
