My 2nd gen with a TC 3.5 kit is 6” wider than a first gen with a 3.5 TC kit and 10” wider than a pre Tacoma with the 3.5 kit and more than a foot wider than a stock solid axle 1981 truck. I carry a tape measure to verify these numbers on the trail. Ive had the outside wheel hang off a cliff on a narrow trail. That was a 2 vallume trip for my wife. It also comes into play on fast narrow rocky roads where both wheels are clipping rocks at 60

Speaking of turning radius: anyone have a LT DCLB want to measure your turning circle radius?

I have been through the squeeze many times on a dirt bike when I used to live in SoCal. That trail is one of those exceptions. Same with the other video, that is in the needles district south of Moab. That notch is only a viewing / pic area, you don't have to go through it.

That is one of those scenarios where I probably wouldn't take a 2nd gen on that trail.

I have come across Kane Creek down in moab, where I need at least another Rig in front of me so I can winch off of them. The boulder in the bottom picture is like 3' tall and I have no front locker. And I am too wide to fit between the two boulders. This is one of those exceptions where the +3.5 is a little to wide, but having the extra articulation on this trail really helps. If I had a vehicle in front to winch off of, I could take advantage of the long travel and put my left front tire on top of that massive 3' ledge. Thus giving me space to not have to pivot on the rock on the left.
I have seen other rigs (FJ's) pivot off the big boulder on the left on there sliders, but due to my glass, it may cause some bedside damage.

Ill return to this trail one day..

Tight squeeze there foe syre. Made it through on midtravel but had to climb the left ledge and use the slider.

Yes that's kinda the point of my post.

Here's how a 1/4 of LT BS questions go:
Person 1: Hi, I'm here to buy a blue fish. Which should I buy?
    Person 2: Buy this one.
    Person 1: F!@# you, I want a blue fish that's red.
Person 2: Not possible. Maybe you should just buy a red fish.
Person 1: Don't be such an asshole. Blue fish are cool!
    Person 2: Ok

My truck there and axles are 68 wms to wms and about 85 inches outside of the tire to outside of the tire with 39x13.5. The solid axle industry and way people build rigs is evolving. Look at the KOH guys doing 100 through the desert no problem. As smooth as a tt? No but still impressive.

It’s pretty long... don’t have an exact measurement, but I can only make 180 turns in cul-de-sac’s if there are zero cars lining the street.
And need at least 3 lanes wide going the opposite direction to make a u-turn at a light.

Definitely worse than a stock tundra, and about on par with a friends f350 4door with a long bed.

Or don't be a pansy and send it! :bikewhoops:

Okay, joking aside you are both correct. Not everyone is into this type of wheeling and if you are, the 2nd gen Tacoma is probably not the most ideal vehicle for you. It is a very fun trail though and the curiosity got the best of me. Everything is situational. This was just one of many examples.

The one with the video clips and everyone bitching about width.

Really this is why a 1st gen is better :p even with LT it's not much wider than a 2nd gen and even then it's the tires mostly sticking out not the fenders

Gotchya. Maybe there should be a question and answer section that’s for this kind of thing - I admit by this point the long travel info sticky is TLDR level for most people these days and that's not even sarcasm and I've read almost every thread in this section of the forum going back to the first threads. I get it, guys want more travel, durability, bling, etc. but not going to the point of dealing with changing out body panels, losing road handling feel of mostly stock, spending their kids' inheritance, etc. But yeah maybe an updated list of products with info and comparisons could minimize the questions that are the usual suspects.

And as @malburg114 mentioned many well tuned solid axle rigs in ultra 4 and other racing / performance builds would make most bolt on & sua kit builds look like they're standing still.

"His spotter gets out to, to ah, ah, ah to spot him... ...great call."

THIS. This is the answer to a lot of problems. It's basically a free area for storage at the end of the day. Been trying to decide where to mount a jack in the bed, but want to place it in an area not in the way of "necessary" bed space. Keeping all the recovery essentials in the truck at all times without taking up a large amount of space for other items that could be in the bed. I would be really interested if someone is able to do this on the truck. Or does anyone have other ideas?
